Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

About the only thing 5G has is potential. When you hear about people using 5G already it's mostly a marketing scheme. 4G has plenty more bandwidth than our current needs demand.
NEA pushes tranny education...this is why we must have a voucher system in education rather than the current propaganda and brainwashing public education system.
Until France deports its muslim invaders it will continue to burn. Feds back off Flynn...until the administrative state goes to jail and is bankrupted, nothing will improve in government. The NYTimes knowingly published lies...they have been doing that since Stalin was in power. Nixing Heathrow expansion and better roads: Why not go whole hog and go back to horses? True, there's the poop problems, but that's WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than airplanes and cars!
LA Times is FOR more government, for US, though NOT for them. The Democratic Party's Patriotism Deficit: It's HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. The Times was well aware when it published these statements that they were not true. I despise, detest, and distrust everything in the NYT. Trump is helping black Americans make history in 2020: OOOOOOOh, that makes Dems so MADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD! Buy some Corona, even if it's not your usual brand. Poor bastards.
But you drink Coronas with limes. I don't wanna get lime disease.
"Buy some Corona, even if it's not your usual brand. Poor bastards."
Normally, I rarely drink the stuff (and I never drink it from a bottle with the silly lime slice); Mexico has far too many excellent beers to bother much with drinking what amounts to an over-hyped imported mass-produced beer that is not really much better than any one of our own over-hyped mass-produced brands. But Modelo, which pumps out Corona, makes a couple of other very good beers so we've got to support them! This demands rigorous anti-stupidity action, so I'll start picking up a few cans now and then. The death rate from the flu is 0.01%; Coronavirus is 0.2% for the general population. That's a twenty times increase! If you estimate that those that got the flu last year get Coronavirus next winter, we could be looking up to 1,000,000 deaths in America alone. (This is without any community mitigation efforts or self-quarantine so the realistic numbers will be much lower.) Look, it's not the Black Plague or Ebola, but it is worth taking seriously.
Hope none of you are dependent on Diet Coke, yet another product reliant on a Chinese supply chain. Seriously, not looking forward to a pandemic, but the one benefit will be the exposure of the ugly infrastructure built to undermine employment of American workers.
Diet coke is the least of our worries. You ought to be considering the consequences of a pharmaceutical supply chain utterly reliant on active pharmaceutical ingedients from China. USA has not made penicillin since 2004. We have minimal leverage over China. They did their usual practice of pricing their products below cost to drive other countries out of the API business. The smartest people in the room, like Bloomberg, were either in on it, looked the other way, or too stupid to see it. Oh yeah, dont count on rigorous monitoring from the FDA. This comment is thanks to Mike K who posts frequently on Althouse and sometimes here.
Lest we forget, the insurance industry had to look the other way, too. Cui bono?
Blockbuster news from China on COVID-19
QUOTE: …They found that the epidemic peaked and plateaued between the 23rd of January and the 2nd of February, and has been declining steadily since then. That is good news, and not just for China. With no preparation and relatively primitive public health networks (compared to those of developed nations), the epidemic stabilized in roughly four weeks – probably due to China’s fast and large quarantines. That is good news, because other nations are relying on quarantines to contain the infection. Also, this suggests that the doomsters’ predictions that the epidemic would prove uncontrollable in China – sweepting through to its four corners – are wrong. China’s 77 thousand cases sounds like a large number, but it is a small fraction of China’s 1.4 billion people. That is true even if the true number infected is twice as large, or even (implausibly) five times as large. “They found that the fatality rate is between 2% and 4% in Wuhan, and 0.7% outside Wuhan.” The fatality rate in the developed nations will certainly be lower than that in China outside Wuhan (medical facilities in Wuhan are overwhelmed), although the estimate of a 0.7% fatality rate might be wrong. Original estimates were over 2% (e.g., here). If proven correct, this is great news. “They found that for people with mild disease, recovery time is about two weeks, while people with severe or critical disease recover within three to six weeks.” https://wattsupwiththat.com/2020/02/25/blockbuster-news-from-china-about-covid-19/ Doesn't sound all that serious. You may be right, you may be wrong. It is too soon to know. It is like seeing the ocean up close on a beach for the first time and saying well the wave came and went looks like it's all over. The reporting will be in waves. The actual virus will undoubtedly merely act like a typical airborne virus but the reporting will be affected by many things including politics. We won't know enough about this virus for months, perhaps six more months. Then we will know if it became truly pandemic and what the death rate is. Right now it is conjecture and often tainted by propaganda both ways. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
The numbers are encouraging. However, China’s reaction to this virus, seems to be exponentially more serious than what the numbers would indicate. What are they not telling us? If it is just like the common flu virus, why the extreme measures? I don’t think we know exactly how many people have died in China. Initially there was reports of large amounts of human cremation. So much smoke that it showed up on satellite data. Maybe that was all bull dung?
The incubation time, where the virus goes undetected, is a major problem. Initially there was reports of that reinfection, could be very deadly. I haven’t seen much reporting on that. To much hype, not enough factual information. The fractured political state in which we live, all sides trying for the kill shot, in even the smallest of circumstances, has us in a very big predicament. All information is filtered through a political prism. The US media, being a subsidiary of the democrat party, has done great damage to the usefulness of their information. Frankly, I am at a loss as to what to believe. It all depends when you measure it. Right now the fatality rate in Washington State is 25%. (Out of 4 cases.) In Iran it is around 8%. (34 deaths out of 388 cases.)
Point is that we don't have meaningful data yet. For me Corona is purely a summer beer. Hopefully it'll be safe to drink by then...
