We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I wonder what Las Vegas would be without the casinos. They have lots of attractions, like famous singers and comedians. And they also have family activities. Would it be possible for the big players in Las Vegas to find some other way to stay in business?
I ask this not only because I hate casinos. But also because of the fact that the Mob has always run that town. So if we're going to go through the exhaustive process of removing the mob from banking, pharma, supermarkets, etc. we will have to do a complete job, and remove them from everything. The racketeers and trade unions will both have to go at the same time. No more crony capitalism, or funny deals, or restrictions on who may sell what to whom. That means Las Vegas, as a gambling town, really has no future, just like the Mob and the Unions have no future.
