Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

It is beginning to look like the Coronavirus will be the biggest event in 2020 and could be the biggest event in the 21st century. Today the presidential elections are the number one story on the news but within weeks it will be pushed out of the news as the Coronavirus spreads.
On cue, the Democrats are blaming Trump for the country not being prepared for the corona virus. All I can think of is the Democrats being fixated on nothing but shampeachment the last 6 months and totally stopping the process of governing, even as the epidemic started to rage in China during January.
On Coronavirus COVID19, we're riding the crest of the revenue wave for the networks and media giants. This is the Armageddon coverage they rely on to survive, bread & butter & gravy work, whipping it into a frenzy and keeping it there as long as they can. Give it a month to learn and quietly prepare before you panic, because it will be at least a month before we actually know whether it's a pandemic or just a bad flu season. A good time to stock the pantry and medicine chest before the runs.
The Democratic Party Machine is doomed, nice to know they're finally developing some awareness. They have no marketable candidate and their message has no salable points anymore. They've corrupted themselves into consumer obsolescence, and they're being replaced from within by another brand. Bernie has been like one of those parasitic wasps ,now he's preparing to shed his carapace and go full Socialist. Democrats are gnashing their teeth because they had always planned on getting a few more profitable years out of this gig. But there shouldn't be any gloating by conservatives / Republicans / Trumpers. The Democrats said the same things about Trump in 2016. Bernie is a grassroots king in top form. Plus, Bernie could still win, especially if voter harvesting and other frauds are brought to bear, and you can bet they will be. It's no time to rest easy. "Bernie has been like one of those parasitic wasps ,now he's preparing to shed his carapace and go full Socialist."
I'm thinking after his heart attack last year he figures he's running out of time, so why not go full Communist? He's got his, (millions in the bank and 3 houses) so now's the time to take it away from everyone else instead of dropping out and living the rest of his life peacefully. When you've been soaking in envy and anger for decades, it doesn't matter how much YOU have if you think someone else has more - they've got to be forced to give it up for you to be happy. re This is the Armageddon coverage they rely on to survive,
I tend to agree. Proclaiming apocalypse generates eyeballs, whether it be readers or watchers. Given the media's long history of exaggerating the consequences of current events, the virulence of cronovirus is probably greatly over hyped. But we'll see. Time will tell. Re: Limiting Principles
Limiting principles were spelled out in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The Constitution gives Congress the power to tax and in the same section, it spells out the the things in the government's sphere and so what those taxes can be spent on. In the Fifth Amendment, private property used for public use must be repaid at fair value. I contend that the impact of this is that the government cannot take your money from you and give it to another who did not earn it. Yet we have long forgotten those limiting principles. See the 16th Amendment. The worst mistake this country ever made.
Agreed, but at least the people who promoted it respected the Constitution enough to go through the process of amending it rather than just ignoring the parts they didn't like.
Americans aren't as eager to retreat from the Middle East as politicians seem to think
Forget about it, Bird Dog! It's "The Hill", fake and nonsensical! Diversity: I am not YOU and you are not ME. Expanded.
"Colleges Give Up on Western Civilization" : Not "giving up", but actually working to KILL it. you'd think people who spend so much energy on rebellion would at least want to know what they were rebelling against.
Unless, of course, the goal is for MiniTru to be able to tell them each week exactly what they are taking a bold stand against, even if it is completely the opposite of what they stood against last week. “America Continues To Lead In Cutting Greenhouse Gas Emissions”
And without a treaty to enforce it. How in the world did that happen?! I agree that the nomination of Bernie is not a guaranteed Trump victory. Aren't many of these the same people who told us Trump could not win?
The diversity article in First Things is correct but too gentle. The blackness of Barack Obama should have been an irrelevance that disappeared a few months after his election, yes. But it didn't. Because he did not have other accomplishments, his blackness remained as a main story.. |
