We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
What a blast from the past! My first husband worked in a fruit-fly genetics lab for the two years that I knew him in college. His wasn't a technical job, but it was flexible and paid well for a part-time job on campus. Basically paid his way through college with fruit flies. I wouldn't say a word against them.
My little part of the world is a "Fruit-Fly Free Zone" and there is more chance of getting drugs or kidnapped refugees over our border than a banana. I've heard of people getting $300 fines for a container of apple puree for their baby. This is not at an airport either.
