Instead of bailing out Detroit we should investigate Detroit. The last 50 years or so the politicians and others have looted Detroit and state coffers. We should expose it and have some public perp walks. Chicago too!

The Brits may have elected Boris and trounced the Socialist candidate, but it will be years before they shuck off the legacy of the EU's tyrannical policies. And then, only if they adamantly demand to. Serfdom may be rising, but it's not yet Serf's Up!

The UK Government find it acceptable to censor everybody's right to free speech - a God-given right in our country - but find it impossible to effectively police and eradicate a culture of pedophile child grooming and sexual predation, apparently because it was too awkward confronting matters of foreign culture and race. Once again, their actions victimize the victims but not the perps. Wouldn't it be much more effective to eradicate these crimes by targeting the criminals? Maybe a populace that can accept that for their children doesn't need free speech. They've left the EU - time will tell if they're still British.

The economy is not something we should expect to "work for us." It's a system within which WE work, based on nonviolent voluntary exchanges. What we call economics is our observation about how things will in fact work out if we allow price signals to inform our exchanges of goods and services produced by our work.

To hear some people talk, the "economy" is a purse out of which Mommy is supposed to give us our allowance: all about "equitable" distribution instead of about production and the meeting of needs that people are willing to exchange things for.

When we see that people need things they can't produce by their own work, because they're too young, or ill, or in an emergency jam, it's up to us to give it to them if we can't bear seeing them go without. The economy doesn't give. We give. People who have give. Giving what belongs to other people has another name: theft.

Precisely. The market is like gravity. It operates whether we acknowledge it or not. As we can overrule gravity locally with great expenditure of energy, as with lifting things or with jet engines, so also can overrule the market at great cost, temporarily and locally. We can get away with forced inaccurate pricing, as in bailing out Detroit, only by expending enormous resources.

I was wondering when Rashida Tlaib was going to get around to this. All the other jawboning about racism and prejudice may have only been a setup for demands like this.

For this action he was awarded ten million dollars by the Canadian government and was called a 'magnificent gentleman' by the moderator of a Q&A session following a talk that he was invited to give at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia."

Two points:

1. Not every Canadian is happy about the Trudeau government throwing money at Khadr (this writer certainly isn't). Khadr has precious few friends among ordinary Canadians. Don't forget, plenty of Canadian soldiers were killed or wounded fighting in Afghanistan too.

2. Khadr appeared at a university. Canadian universities, like your own, are also in thrall to the "progressive-woke" mindset.

The Trudeau Government is a minority government, having barely squeaked back in during the election last year. It is an increasingly unpopular government too.

Right now our railway system has effectively been shut down across the country due to a handful of indigenous anti-pipeline activists on a couple of main tracks. Though court orders have been served, no action has yet been taken to remove these pests.

As the Trudeau government continues to dither on taking concrete action, the economy is taking a hit and what remains of our Dear Leader's, er, prime minister's popularity continues to tank.

Can the railroads and affected rail customers sue the protestors for damages (money lost because goods have been delayed and resulting lost sales/production time)?

My feeble mind cannot comprehend how shutting down a rail system, an action that adversely affects millions, can be allowed to happen with no consequences for the perpetrators.

Fear of confrontation for being portrayed as a bully-government is the story line, but in actuality it's Trudeau's sympathy for the real bully - the protestors - who are doing the Trudeau government's dirty work for them. The alternative to pipelines is rail cars, and they had a whopper of a derailment here a couple of weeks ago, oil all over the place. How anybody can protest a pipeline while being a hydrocarbon consumer society in the frozen north is beyond me. The best solution is just to let the cities stay cut off until the populace becomes furious enough with the vocal minority, to take effective action against the government's policy inaction. It's funny how the political majority has never figured out how to be any good at organizing.
