We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

High amenity districts. Three years ago they built a Walmart about m 1/2 mile from me. I am still over joyed by this. Bargains everyday.

I agree. As a foreign observer, I just don't get what grumpy old Bernie thinks he's achieving here.

Wouldn't a better tack be to denounce racism while carefully appealing to the voters' better nature and calling on the solidarity and generous spirit of every American to address such a putatively serious issue?

Again, Progressivism is 18th Century Calvinism with God removed and some half-remembered Marx and Rousseau thrown in (along with some pot smoke, in most cases). We are sinners in the hand of an Angry... something. We must not only repent, we must atone. Even if you don't have racial/environmental/whatever-al sins, you have sins of omission. You haven't been not-racist enough. You haven't been not-sexist enough. You haven't been not-discriminatory enough. How can you tell? because these things still exist in the world. We all bear and are responsible for the sins of the World and our ancestors. We must purge ourselves of all these sins and bring about a paradise on Earth.
We must gain this paradise through our own works. As long as any sin remains, none of us are fully righteous.
We must repent, we must atone. We must vote for those who can show us The Way, the Truth, and the Light.

There was an episode in the old Jeeves and Wooster series where Bertie is visiting with Dr. Sir Roderick Glossop, "the noted nerve specialist", as he describes The Glossop Method to Bertie. The Glossop Method took patients such as alcoholics or sex addicts and let them have all the alcohol or sex they could stand. The theory was that by over indulging in the extreme they would ultimately tire of it and "get it out of their system."

This story instantly reminded me of the Glssop Method.

I'm not sure that the Glossop method works. I am a chocoholic. I eat about 8 ounces a day. I can eat a lot more than that but I pace myself. Two months ago I found Ghirardelli chocolate on sale for less than half the normal price. I bought 40 lbs or so. Then a week ago I found another good deal on Ghirardelli even cheaper than half price and I bought another 40 lbs of it and every day I am fighting the urge to buy some more. Ghirardelli is the "double malt scotch" of the chocolate world and I can't get enough of it. Just saying...

In general, insulting one's potential customers is not a winning sales strategy. There is an exception, though....if your target market is the Mean Girls Club (and/or their male equivalents), then you might do quite well by insulting those who are not members of the club and hence cannot appreciate the wonderfulness of your product or service.

It depends on who counts the votes.

It's funny how in a lot of democratically controlled areas there are always denials of any sort of voter fraud, but you can get 105-110% of the registered voters in the area always voting for the D candidate... :(

For the next Democratic debate, instead of the conventional format, they should play a game of Jeopardy. Across the top for categories, list all of the issues of the day. Behind all of the dollar amounts, just list "More Government".

Re Proposed Human Extinction. What the proposer forgets is the Human Animal has evolved Environmental Manipulation as a survival strategy. Fire, shelter, tools, language, agriculture and domesticated animals are all part of the human social animal evolution. It is all natural and part of nature. Other than humans there are very few symbiotic relationships where one species cares for another species. Humans with reasoning can identify pollution and/or negative impacts on the environment and invent solutions. Humans can even identify species on the verge of extinction and rescue them. No other species has that capacity.
