Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Rush's cancer

Stage 4 lung cancer is a bad deal. He's been a breath of fresh air, and highly entertaining, for decades although I have not had time to hear him very often in recent years.


He is 69 years old. I hope he can keep going as long as possible.  I feel certain that he will. A great American voice, always with humor, grace, and good cheer but I will not do an obituary yet.

I'm very impressed with the way he's handled it. I remember when he admitted that his addiction to pain killers had ruined his hearing. He is a very classy guy. A true inspirational figure.

That's a shame. But 69 years is a pretty good run. I think that people should be happy with the number of years that they got, and exit peacefully. Assisted suicide should be made available to anyone in his position.

I will pray, too.

I am not sure if I care so much about politics because I listened to Rush or if I would have formed the same opinions even without hearing him.

When I was in my early 20s, I painted houses and used to listen to Rush while I worked. Having my mind on something else while I worked made the work go faster.

Nobody else brought his flair to political discussions. When I tried to get others to listen, they were often turned off by his constant self-promotion. But I always took it as an inside joke and not as a statement of fact.

I haven't listened much in the last 20 years. But I hope that he recovers completely and quickly. If he doesn't, then I hope he will pass without pain.
