We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Odd, when I hear the word "smear" the first party that pops into my mind isn't "Republican," unless you're referring to the traces of Soleimani on the pavement.
Yeah that Slate article was positively Orwellian. I don't think any word including the articles was true
How an e-waste sting uncovered a shocking betrayal!!!!! RIPPED FROM THE HEADLINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Needed some jazzing up.)
Say Bye Bye Trees: Climate Scientists Finally Claim We Passed a “Tipping Point” Tipping points are every (or every other) month.
“By almost any measure this was one of the worst years in the history of commercial news media.” The media has shot their own feet off. I don't believe any thing they say or print.
Why Rush Limbaugh’s New Contract Is So Important:
The media Borg gets NO SAY with Rush. He's tunneled over, under, around, and through them.
Pelosi: Trump, Pence, and McConnell are working for Putin...That Girl's NUTS. Not to mention, lying.
The GOP’s Endless War on Democrats. The Iran debate shows Republicans don’t believe in fighting tyrants. They believe in smearing their opponents. SLATE is LYING. That's what the Dems do.
I’m not going to say I don’t care about the workers, or the conditions that they toil in, recycling all our electronics, but really it is the problem of the country that takes the stuff in. I do notice that the investigation team has no answer to glut of used electronics. They used electronics to cover every bit of their investigation, including a very nice Sony video recorder. They seem to imply that electronics should be built with an eye to its end life; ease of recycling the stuff. Maybe. The cost of that sort of engineering would be astronomical. Engineers barley have enough time to make things so that they can be assembled. Wait until the millions of solar panels, and the controls that go along with them, being installed on the roofs of homes everywhere across the country, need recycling.
The green energy freaks don't consider their own waste effects on the rest of us.
John Kerry is right and we all need to pay attention. The MSM failed at their job terribly during the Obama administration and they continue today ignoring many of his crimes. The did it partly because he was a leftist like them but mostly because he was a "African American". They will do this again for the first openly gay president or the first female president. We need to be aware that if Warren Or Butitieg wins that our MSM will not only ignore their crimes but help cover them up. WE need to be more awake to what our politicians do. We need to not only do the MSM's job but we need to understands that they are part of the problem. The left is intent on overthrowing our government and burning the constitution and they will succeed if we let them.
As I have said previously here, Obama isn't African American in the sense that his family was ever a victim of slavery in America. In fact, his mother's family owned slaves before the Civil War and his father came over from Africa to study here.
So while his skin color is a little darker than mine, he certainly hasn't got any right to claim that he was oppressed by American slavery. Further, the fact that he was able to attend the some of the most expensive schools in the country and was offered opportunities that I was never offered means that he didn't face the discrimination he says makes America racist.
I don't think of him as African American in any sense of the term.
New task force on the hunt for ‘drone command vehicle’ in rural Colorado, Nebraska
A newly formed task force is on the hunt for a “command vehicle” that might be controlling the mysterious clusters of drones that witnesses say have been flying grid patterns in northeast Colorado and western Nebraska most nights for several weeks.
I thought I heard a local report (Denver), that these drones ARE military! The military is using the drones to do air recon on the the ballistic missile silos.
The article you linked to, was originally filed by the Denver Post. You can't trust those people! They're fake news. ;)
Considering elites, and fake news, and democratic institutions, in a few links above.
The inability to consider that they could possibly be wrong is evidence, in and of itself that they are dangerous. Rational people have some ability to observe themselves and their group skeptically and critically. Doctors wonder if they are out of their depth with a case, Christians wonder if they have quite understood what Jesus means in a certain passage, parents discuss whether they are being too strict or too loose. This is how adult reasoning proceeds.
So I suppose I should take this as a self-reminder to question myself a bit this week, to make sure I do not overcorrect or refuse to see something obvious.
re The inability to consider that they could possibly be wrong is evidence, in and of itself that they are dangerous.
That's a great line and so true.
In addition to the ethical complaints, Dershowitz should file a HIPAA complaint against Lee. Mentioning his name and a diagnosis or statement of medical condition without his permission should be a per-se willful violation, making it subject to criminal, in addition to civil penalties.
Re: Climate Scientists Finally Claim We Passed a “Tipping Point”
So arson is a precursor to the climatic end times?
But wait... I thought we had eleven years!!!
You mean the fact that the US releases less carbon into the air than last year didn't help?
I blame Bernie and Hollyweird with all their private jet flights.
Thank goodness China has committed to increase their solar energy production or they would have had fires too!

Re: Israel became a natural gas superpower
Oh boy! Another reason for the Palestinians to hate Israel (because they have natural gas) and for the left to hate Israel (because they are in the fossil fuel business.
This is great news, I hope they make a lot of money. But I would like to know what they get per cubic foot, once it's been loaded onto a ship, and what homeowners pay.
Does anyone here have a link to a list of verbal/rhetorical strategies that are used most frequently to take over a conversation, and to silence others. I am looking for a list of some kind.

When I lived in London, I always got a laugh out of the Notting Hill luvvie and eco types blathering on about deforestation.
I would have loved to have taken them to a forest warden's watchtower in Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada and made them face west. Then I'd ask, "Tell me, what do you see all the way to the far horizon?"
Humanities departments are easy to sort out. Just see what they did to mark the 800th anniversary that happened June 15, 2015.
Nothing? Well, there's your sign.
Non-Western Civilization humanities departments, exempted.
The Humanities deserved to die. The career track for a humanities undergrad is one of (a) getting a PhD and being a post-doc researcher until a university position opens up; (b) fulfilling some meaningless job in the Federal Government; or (c) living off of your trust fund.
We need to go back to the days when the only people in the humanities were in group c.
