We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
We're not captive. Step number one is never to listen to a live report. If it's important information, it will show up in print. You can skim a written article for facts. If the first several paragraphs are primarily emotion-mongering and predictions of the future, stop right there and find something else to read. If the same publication offends too often, quit clicking on it.
Agreed. Turn off the TV, cut the cable, cancel the Netflix and Hulu, stop visiting Drudge and wean yourself off their lies and degeneracy. And if you have to, which I did, set your alarm for an hour and read a book no internet even if you feel like you need to look something up. Gradually increase the time and you can wean yourself off of a lot of this and cut down on online time.
It is the deep state/administrative state media and its reputation has been trashed by their own self indulgent "expertise" which amounts to nothing more than opinion used to justify their grab for power and control of the supposed news.
“We should stop listening to the media on national security issues, since they are always wrong.”
I made this informed decision in 2015 because I cannot trust anything they say when the bullshit-to-truth ratio is 0.95, which is where we are. And that doesn’t even include what they’re hiding, which is also skewed to a similar degree.
The whole thing is a shitshow, best ignored. In fact you can pretty reliably know the world around you better by assuming the complete opposite of whatever the media has told you since then.

As In the old Soviet saying: "Never believe anything until it is officially denied by the Government".
H.L. Mencken: “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”
