Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Ooohhh, Russian censorship and repression! Scary.
But likely not worse than that done overtly by Twitter, Google, Facebook and others. Let's stop with the Russian bogeyman and start dealing with the corruption and repression by US corporations and government. A Model Response to BDS: Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Uh huh. Sho' nuff. And the US Department of Education. #1.1 B. Hammer on 2020-01-08 10:14 (Reply) Colleges, too! Nikki Haley is making a few politically-savvy moves and looking toward the future. But I don't find that she said anything factually wrong, or even misguided, when observing the response of the Democrats to the good General's death. And yet, when you scan her Twitter feed, good lord! The pig-pile is on. Sad, if this is the best the party can do, swamp an opposing party member's Twitter feed, but that's our modern Democrats: Over 60 million customers served, with 0 new ideas and nothing else to offer except bondage in exchange for obedience.
I like a lot of things that she says. But she is at heart another John McCain or Susan Collins. She is 70% a conservative but would confiscate guns because she could convince herself it was the right thing to do. As a politician I would expect her to abandon conservatives at the worst possible time and justify it by saying she was following her conscience.
Dollar stores don't sell anything that is much different than a 7-11 or mom and pop store sells. So you have to wonder what exactly is their agenda in attacking The General. It is virtually impossible to make a scientifically provable case that the foods sold there are harmful. If they could make that case then they would not need to talk in generalities and vague accusations. It is reminiscent of Bloomberg taxing and banning sodas for our own good. The activists and politicians rarely if ever do anything useful when they take action. More commonly they screw things up and then try to blame others for it. Leave the free market alone, let the people decide where they want to shop and what they want to buy.
DG is pretty convenient to have around when you run out of the staples. These do-gooders however, do not want you to have convenience, among other things, because that's bad for you...in the long run. They simply must have someone to do things to and they must do it to us for our own good because that excuses all excess they may indulge.
I suspect that the recent attack by Iran to which we responded was in fact the result of collusion with John Kerry who advised Iran to execute a measured attack on the U.S. in Iraq which would force the president to respond to which the Democrats could exploit and harm the president. Kerry has been a traitor since 1965 or so and is still a traitor.
No, it is pronounced as "dessert," rather than "desert," so we leap to that conclusion. But it is derived from the word deserve not the sweet.
re CNN settles lawsuit with Nick Sandmann
Surprised they settled so quickly. Wow! re Unjust Deserts - Cities move to ban dollar stores, blaming them for residents’ poor diets.
Is there an ulterior motive here for banning the stores, or is this just an insight into leftist thinking that POC lack the intelligence to make correct decisions about their lifestyle on their own?? Dollar General has been aggressively expanding in rural towns here in Nebraska. Towns as small as 700 have one. Judging by the business they generate, people are glad they are here. It's the psychology of dealing with a four-year old. Limit choices to create the illusion of autonomy while establishing and maintaining control.
Ask a four-year old what shirt he wants to wear, and you'll be there all day while he decides. Tell a four-year old he has to wear the blue shirt and he'll resist. Ask him if he wants to wear the blue shirt or the red shirt, and he'll be happy with the choice and you'll get to kindergarten on time. We called that the pediatric choice "Do you want to walk to the car or do you want to be carried?"
It does work in many other contexts, yes, as does the similar "Shiny, shiny!" distraction technique. Re race and higher education. Look at the average score of blacks on IQ tests. That's why the supreme court ruled that you cannot make an IQ test a condition of employment. IQ tests are discriminatory because blacks get low scores. In recruiting for the military, an IQ below 81 is disqualifying and persons with IQ’s between 81 and 93 cannot comprise more than 20% of all enlistees.
It's actually even higher than that now. Cutoff about 90.
The story about Russia is funny, and I'll tell you why. Russian history books and scientific literature only list Russians. So according to those books, Russians invented everything. The Communists just made up a bunch of stories, which are obviously not true. So now, Russia has a big problem. The English Wikipedia contains a reasonably accurate account of history. But the Russian account of history is a fairy tale; full of Russian Scientific Heroes of the Glorious Revolution!
So what's going to happen when millions of Russians visit the English Wikipedia, and find that nothing matches what they have been told? |
