We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The Greek word was logos, usually translated as word.
What is the point of something? In the ancient Greek, the point is the logos. If we had a law dispute between us, the point of that dispute would be called the logos of that dispute. And when the Greek is translated in the great, great Good Book “In the beginning was the Word,” well the Greek there is logos, and that might have been translated “In the beginning was the point of it all,” the plan, what would be realized, you see: the intelligent design that the balance of human life and human history would instantiate.
The quote above is from The Great Ideas of Philosophy by Professor Daniel N. Robinson from The Great Courses. That link goes to the 2nd edition. I have the 1st edition and the quote is from the end of lecture 12 "Aristotle on the Knowable."
The Switchel Philosopher
As I get older, and as I watch the lunacy that western civilization has become mired in, these words, this assurance that the light will overcome in the end, bring me great comfort.
I share especially in Deana's comment, being somewhat astonished at my late in life understanding, so much deeper than youth. Especially since I've seen recent science and historical knowledge, which has made the entire Creation, and Bible, so 101% certain to me. Revelations for me in the past decade are stunning, in wholeness of complexity, infinity. The Power of our Creator, the only one, of our Bible, is incomprehensible, within, and without, looking inward, and looking outward. Personally from a science, engineering, business background, I speak.....
Preceding mere examples, for the literate science minded, to look on the face of God's works, along with many more, coming online, multiple authors, illustrations.
My Faith is total.
