Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re: Can Europe Be Saved From Demographic Doom?
In order to be saved, you first have to want to be saved. Unfortunately, as Douglas Adams put it, "In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move." Too many people see only doom and gloom and every silver lining has a dark cloud. I say we need a good plague to get these people to put things into perspective. Things aren't so bad, in fact, things are so much better than they've ever been that we're having to invent problems to worry about. Europe is being invaded. The invasion is being promoted and controlled by the elite in the UN and various NGOs. After all a couple of million destitute Africans don't get to Europe by themselves. There is a purpose in all of this and that is to dilute and replace Europeans so that their countries can be controlled. At the risk of sounding conspiratorial I think this is being pushed by nations that wish to control the world and prefer this method to all out war. It is also being aided by rich businessmen and elites who directly benefit from these policies. But where is the pushback from the native Europeans? Well, they have been intimidated and re-educated over the last few decades to believe any disagreement with this new diversity is racism and white supremacy. Eerily similar to what is happening in America and this is not coincidental because the same replacement and dilution strategy is playing out here. The elite don't like the way you vote or "hoard" your wealth. They want liberal politicians and higher taxes. The goal is socialism, NOT because socialism is good for the masses BUT because socialism is a natural blueprint or fast track to a repressive and authoritarian government. What the elite want are unarmed serfs and two classes. They don't want a middle class because an educated middle class is too difficult to control and exploit. They want a small ruling class and a massive lower class that can be controlled and used to benefit them. That is Europe's future and America's too. In spite of Trump and our constitution there is really only one hope for America and that is the 2nd amendment or more accurately American gun owners. Either Americans will rise up and throw the globalists elites out or they will lie down and become slaves.
Adolph Hitler had the Washington Post in mind when he wrote:
It's readers, by and large, can be divided into three groups: First, into those who believe everything they read; Second, into those who have ceased to believe anything; Third, into the minds which critically examine what they read, and judge accordingly. Numerically, the first group is by far the largest. It consists of the great mass of the people and consequently represents the simplest-minded part of the nation. It cannot be listed in terms of professions, but at most in general degrees of intelligence. To it belong all those who have neither been born nor trained to think independently, and who partly from incapacity and partly from incompetence believe everything that is set before them in black and white. To them also belongs the type of lazybones who could perfectly well think, but from sheer mental laziness seizes gratefully on everything that someone else has thought, with the modest assumption that the someone else has exerted himself considerably. Now, with all these types, who constitute the great masses, the influence of the press will be enormous, They are not able or willing themselves to examine what is set before them, and as a result their whole attitude toward all the problems of the day can be reduced almost exclusively to the outside influence of others... Communists LOVE gentrification. As long as it happens in THEIR neighborhoods.
Remember, Socialism is the game where everybody wins, or else.
Exactly. Progressives LOVE gentrification, but they pay lip service to being against it. Anybody who's ever been to a 'gentrifying' neighborhood knows these places are chock-a-block with leftist hipsters who want to live in Big City, but are scared of black people and poor people in general.
Same goes for public schools. These hipsters move to Brooklyn or Dorchester or the Southside of Pittsburgh, but as soon as they have kids, boom, it's off to the suburbs or private school. QUOTE: Why Do Progressives Hate Gentrification? From a policy standpoint, the core of the answer is fairly straightforward: the view it, rightly, as a threat to their political power. For half a century, they have been striving to morph the old working class ethnic coalition into a coalition of the disaffected and dysfunctional, which is managed in such a way as to maintain its status as an aggrieved underclass. This is primarily because the children and grandchildren of the old coalition enjoyed an improving standard of living and embraced the cultural change that came with it. As such, the political imperative of the old coalition started to become increasingly irrelevant, if not inimical to them. The problem is very much the same with gentrification, as the article notes: ... It makes black inner-city homeowners wealthier. ... . What’s more, gentrification breaks up concentrated poverty and reduces residential segregation. ... . Moreover, progressives often observe that residential segregation remains pervasive half a century after the 1968 Fair Housing Act. Gentrification helps solve that problem too. It isn't about solving problems. It's about perpetuating isdues and the conctituencies made dependent on them. To the extent that people living in these areas are able to improve their station in life, they become less dependent on the political class for everything, and as such, tend to vote for other sorts of candidates. This, more than anything else, is why Ocasio-Cortez was desperate to stop the Amazon deal. This, more than anything else, is why Baltimore is desperate to avoid scrutiny. There are many other examples. Of course, the Progs aren't the only ones who have a problem with this. That, however, is another discussion for another time. "VDH: Quo Vadis, Democrati?"
Pst… coining a plural democrati is fine but he needs to change that vadis to vaditis. Sorry, blame my Latin pedantry on the Jesuits! The state AG's and trial lawyers are going after 6 pharmaceutical companies blaming 400,000 deaths over the last 10 years on them. I think we all know that almost all deaths from drug overdose are the result of fentanyl and/or illegal drugs. It's really damned hard to "overdose" on oxycontin and kill yourself. What this is, is greed by the ambulance chasers. Because you can't sue the people who bring in fentanyl or sell it on the street so you go after the deep pockets. But what will be the end result? Sure a lot of lawyers will become filthy rich. It won't stop overdose deaths because it will still be fentanyl killing people. But likely some of those drug companies will go bankrupt and even those which do not will be so fiscally impacted that they will have to cut back or eliminate research. So is it worth it to make a few lawyers filthy rich and at the same time prevent the manufacture of life saving drugs and the development of new drugs??? Qui bono?
About those Virginia students.
"It is the classic fallacy of our time that a moron run through a university and decorated with a Ph.D. will thereby cease to be a moron." H. L. Mencken The discussion about progressives hating gentrification brings up one more opportunity to view their short sighted, self-serving hypocrisy. For example: they are determined to destroy a system that allows one generation of white people to pass on their real estate to their next generation. This is especially true in rural America when it comes to passing on inherited farms and ranches--Gads they HATE THAT! But, on the other hand, the progressive elitist thinkers really, really want the urban old timers, those whose families have lived for years in downtown communities, to be able to hold on to their way of life and their real estate--even if it is tenant rentals. It seems to me that if progressives are really concerned about the quality of the environment, the subject of community design(ers), they need to get real about the fact that they grew up in some very, very ugly and self limiting suburbs. Maybe they should go back to their own communities and re-design those places and let other communities design their own! If that had been a priority 40 years ago San Francisco would not be as ugly as it is today.
RE: "Fruit Of The Poisonous Tree" - FISA Alterations Could Pose Significant Trouble For FBI
"...Kevin Clinesmith’s tampered and altered documents to obtain Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Warrant will put into question all the evidence gathered to obtain the warrant." More importantly, it could cause all evidence gathered under the warrant to become inadmissible. And better yet, could mean prosecutions of those in the deep state who conducted the fraud. Not holding out too much hope for the latter, but we'll see. Re: Patriotic duty to believe the WaPo
I agree with Margaret Sullivan on one thing - that people are not engaged enough with the news. My hope is that it is because the news is so polluted that it's not worth the thirty minutes she wants people to spend on it. My hope is that if they did spend those thirty minutes, they would see the current Democrat process is corrupt and one sided. They would see that the entire case is made of of what somebody told them or what they presumed. They would realize that the Democrats have been planning to impeach Trump since before he was elected. And they would see the Democrats and the MSM as deeply corrupt. But my fear is that people are complacent. People who are complacent will accept anything including a corrupt media. Kids in school are only taught the importing things like gender is non-binary but aren't taught any history, spelling, math, civics or any kind of critical thinking. This leaves a fertile mind where socialist teachers in college can inculcate failed ideas of the past and the kids think they are cool new ideas. Kids not knowing history means Democrats can get away with saying: QUOTE: For more than 200 years, our party has led the fight for civil rights, health care, Social Security, workers’ rights, and women’s rights... (https://democrats.org/who-we-are/our-history/)An educated engaged person like Sullivan pines for would laugh at such a statement, at least. They would note that it is the Left that disparages being white or Jewish and suggests there is something preferable about being gay, trans, a woman, and/or non-white. They would be disgusted, and outraged that Senators in the Judiciary Committeewould state that without evidence, a woman's tale of sexual abuse should be believed. In the end, Sullivan doesn't really want engaged people who interested in what's going on. She wants more sheep to read her paper. > Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Gets Entire Solar Co. Workforce Fired After Telling Them to Unionize
Not an MBA type, but as I understand, one of the principles of business is that if something is not part of your core competency, you are better off outsourcing it. Perusing their website, Bright Power appears to be a facilities management company, rather like Enron before it became a stock price scam company. If so, it makes sense to outsource installation and construction. I can see how the fired workers could feel this is union-busting, but now we are doing Scot Adams' "Two Movies on the Same Screen" thing. Re: Sixteen Year Old Kids Will Be Allowed to Vote
That's great, but they will never be allowed to vote for lower taxes. They can only vote for higher taxes. |
