We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Next college kids can take a good hard look at beer and dance music, see whether they can be justified, too. Maybe start sleeping on the floor with a stone for a pillow, and attend Marxist chapel services six times a day.
Nobody's forcing them to celebrate if the don't want to.
They're not going to force me to stop, either. When they try, I give them back the shtick they give us about not forcing your values on others. If that doesn't wake them up, I tell them to consider it an exercise in cultural diversity. So far, they haven't come up with a script to counter that one.
Thanksgiving celebrations were around long before the Pilgrims came to North America. In the Anglican Church (Church of England), there was Harvest Thanksgiving, when parishioners brought fruit and vegetables from their gardens for a special service at which thanks was given for the harvest. And before Christian observances were established, people of other faiths gave thanks in the autumn for the food they had been able to gather to carry them through the winter.
They have to wipe out Thanksgiving and rewrite its history because it is the last expressly religious holiday in our country. Obama started by removing references to God in the Thanksgiving presidential proclamation and thereby secularizing it. (Trump put them back in, again asking for prayer to God to thank Him for our blessings.) Technically, Thanksgiving is a national day of prayer declared by the President as the leader of our country. The authority to declare days of prayer is one of the inherent powers our presidents (and governors) have had since the beginning of the country.
Thank for posting this Prager U video. I studied this topic quite extensively and this video did an excellent job of summarizing
It appears that these students are highly uninformed, or they are victims of propaganda, and therefore appear not to be getting a good education. These students need to educated otherwise.
There may be evidence in future years of oppression of native people by Europeans, but this event was not one of them.
There is a great deal of effort to undermine the traditions of Western Culture. They will not succeed. Western Culture is too strong and appealing to most people. Even those who claim to hate it.
I wish I shared your optimism, Phil. The force of propaganda masquerading as education and entertainment is relentless, even for parents like myself who try to counter it. And I am in the very small minority around these parts.
