We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

As a naked political play

The Dems had no choice but to pursue an impeachment tactic, for any excuse, because they know they have no winning candidate for 2020. It's a Hail Mary.

Imagine Donald J Trump approaches the podium with a box; medium sized. First he puts it on the floor, but after speaking for awhile he moves it up to the podium. He is still talking but everybody is thinking WTH. Suddenly turns the box around revealing the stenciled word "ballot". He opens the box and shakes it out to prove it is empty, closes it and approaches a member of the audience....

That is a factor but not the primary factor.

They’re trying to hide their own criminal activity related to spying on Trump illegally starting with the campaign. A lot of powerful people have a lot to lose: Obama, Brennan, Comey, etc., which explains simply and completely everything that has happened up until now. A full on conspiracy to spy on a presidential candidate via the Deep State, and the worst abuse of power against The People in our history by a wide margin, because nothing could be worse.

I agree.

But the thing they didn't see coming was that their gambit would increase Trump's support and make the Dems even more unpopular. Ludicrous public hearings made that effect much, much more pronounced.

So what does Pelosi do now? If they keep going down this path, it's going to hurt all Dem candidates except the ones in true-blue districts--and that's not enough to keep her as Speaker.

But then maybe she's resigned her self to that in any event.

The impeachment hearings are an ongoing political commercial for the democrats which they would like to keep going all the way to November 2020. They have nothing as a presidential candidate. They have nothing to actually convict Trump with. This is all they have.

I think that the left has conceded the 2020 presidential election but this ongoing campaign in the hearings is aimed at trying to keep the house majority and because the senate will not convict, possibly get a majority in the senate as well. If the dems can get control of congress they can stop Trump by either creating legislative opposition or by a combination of legislative and judicial rule.

You have to remember that all the judicial appointments Trump is making will have a far longer effect upon our nation than any executive order or legislative act. The judiciary is the target in the 2020 election for the dems. They know if they wait, eventually they will get the presidency back. But if enough damage is done via court decisions it will be for naught.

Ergo, the battle in impeachment hearings all designed to try to convince as many as possible of Trump not being competent to make these appoints and he must be stopped.
