Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Whole Foods is a great innovation and we usually treat ourselves to a visit when we're in the Big City, just to browse and take in the exotic food choices, and of course, the exotic creatures who go there. We always end up spending more than we ought to, like COSTCO. I asked where the Blue Bell ice cream was at a WF once, and the young clerk with multiple piercings and ear plugs said "We don't carry things like that because our policy is against foods with High-Fructose Corn Syrup" His nose actually went up in the air as he was saying it. If he was French, he would have sniffed, dismissively. So, you have to strap on a pretty big filter when you go to Whole Foods, but if you're a foodie they are worth the visit.
Evergreen State College Enrollment Is Down Sharply Once Again
I had been looking for about a month for 2019 Evergreen enrollment figures. Thanks. The republicans should begin the impeachment investigation for the next Democrat President now. Why wait?
"Abandon malmo". So by now it is certainly obvious to the Swedes that this was a mistake and that their leaders are too stupid to learn from it. Why don't they vote them out???
Re Starbucks... Four of us were meeting at a local Starbucks next to a bookstore on Thursday evenings. We'd been meeting there for several years - it was a good venue and quite popular with both folks coming in and sitting for a while (with coffee), students studying, and people just passing through to grab and go. Never saw any visible drug users, bathrooms were always pretty clean. Crew got to know us by sight, we always tidied up after ourselves.
But - they remodeled. What was a comfortable place to sit and talk for a bit or study lost half its tables and seating, and what was left was spaced so you couldn't sit and talk if you were in a small group. They probably COULD have made it more uncomfortable if they tried - but it was pretty miserable. So now we go to Dunkin' Donuts. (Shrug.) They don't mind us coming in and sitting for an hour and a half, because they're not busy at all and I think they like having folks in there to remind them that the outside world DOES exist, lol. And yes, we clean up after ourselves and straighten the chairs when we go. It's the polite thing to do... I'd like to do that, but where I live there are none. I have no idea where the nearest one may be. There are none within 100 miles.
Can't help you there. Any other local coffee/donut shops?
New York Times Admits NO ONE Believes the Liberal News Media Anymore -
I told my son it takes a long time to build a reputation as trustworthy - and it takes seconds to destroy it utterly. Shame the media didn't realize that. As I've said before, though maybe not here, I despise, detest, and distrust the NYT (and it's little running dog, the WaPoo, too)!
Before the current inquisition I had acquaintances tell me that they wanted President Trump impeached. Some just after the election.
Some after the "investigation" started. When I asked them why I didn't get an answer. Some said: "Muller is going to get his ass". More and more it seems to boil down to "Trump isn't what I think a politician should be".
Trump's loud. They don't want a loud President. Trump's willing to take chances, as with NK and China. They don't want any disruption of the status quo. Trump's active. They don't like having a President who actually gets things done - it disturbs the status quo. Trump's shown he's EFFECTIVE in a wide range of issues. They don't want that - they want a US in a slow decline - controlled by THEM - not a country that's prosperous and doing well. Can't control the serfs if they're not dependent on you, after all... But most importantly - Trump isn't 'one of THEIR kind' - a politician who's credentialed and media-approved, who has levers they can control him with, who's risen up through the political food chain until it was 'his turn' to run. (Like McCain.) They don't LIKE people like that in DC. Trump's everything they're not. And never can be. I have never been able to extract anything as coherent as that. Every time I ask the 'why' question, after one or two fairly low-grade complaints the conversation invariably degrades into expressions of frustrated and irrational, sometimes vehement emotion. It's passing strange.
It's been garnered from a lot of observing. They're fine with a decline in the US as long as they're in charge (and can ride it down in comfort ala Venezuela) and Trump's threatening that.
Trump is showing results matter more than rhetoric. They've spent their lives fashioning the 'proper' rhetoric to get consistently elected - and Trump comes along had has the audacity to try to keep the promises made during his campaign. It's intolerable, I tell you! (grin) QUOTE: Does the Left Hate America? This was a good read, but I might take issue with his last sentence. It seems to me, especially after two decades' worth of belligerent harassment by SJWs where I worked, that they truly hate themselves. I could offer you several reasons for this, but one will suffice. It has to do with the way they treat anybody whose life demonstrates even the slightest hint of self respect or self assurance. This particularly inclues those who would otherwise qualify as a protected class. One seeks refuge in the mob if one is unwilling to stand on one's own; and there is nothing that is a greater threat to such a person than the witness of one standing strong in the face of such a mob. "Does the Left Hate America?"
"Sure seems like it. But why?" Lefties are control-freaks. The USA (still) gives citizens lots of freedom. (Companion question: Why did so many US lefties love communistic countries?) Way back in the 1800s, this guy named Marx (A dead, white, European male, btw) invented a "Scientific" approach to history. He said that to be happy and prosperous A society needs to do A, B, and C (forgetting for a moment what A, B, and C are - it's really unimportant for this argument). the US, however, did not-A, ignored B, and maybe did a little bit of C, and became a largely happy, prosperous, and powerful society.
At this point, the people who thought Marx was right had two choices: they could admit that Marx, and thus themselves, were wrong, or they could deny that the US was actually happy, prosperous, and powerful. They largely chose the second option. QUOTE: Companion question: Why did so many US lefties love communistic countries? The seduction that communistic systems, particularly, and totalitarian systems, generally, offer such people is the ability to function without the burden of responsibility. A benign example is the typical state bureaucracy, in which the way we've always done it is is generally the only consideration. Don't think [independently] or take any other risks, because there is in that the risk of being wrong. It is the letter of the law , however twisted for convenience, that counts. The spirit of the law is a nonstarter. Carried to its pathological conclusion, you end up with the Nuremberg defense. As irrational as it seems to many of us, the really couldn't see the fault in their action, so thorough was their premeditated self-deception and studied ignorance. This hasn't changed in three quarters of a century. Neither has their need to find a disparaged group on which to project all their I'll they don't want to deal with. Re John Dean. John Dean isn't a reliable witness.
You have to ask yourself, did John Dean suddenly get ethical and turn on Nixon or did he decide to do whatever it took to save his own skin after the botched Watergate break-in on June 19, 1972? In case anyone was wondering how the Clinton foundation was doing . . .
QUOTE: The numbers don’t lie. Total revenue reported for 2018 was just $30.7 million, less than a tenth of what was being pulled in While Hillary was Secretary of State. Only $24.2 million was posted in grants and contributions, which constitutes a record low for the “charity.” Expenses amounted to $47.5 million, hence a loss of $16.8 million. In 2009, the Clinton Foundation hauled in $249 million, and in the four years that followed, another $392.2 million in revenue poured in. In her last three years in office, 2014-16, the foundation raised a whopping $344.4 million. https://summit.news/2019/11/19/clinton-foundation-files-16-8-million-loss/ Gee, I wonder why no one is donating to them anymore? What could have possibly happened? They are no longer in a position to sell access to the taxpayers trough. Biden, Kerry, and Pelosi families tried to fill in for them but appear to be less competent at scamming the taxpayers and work more on their insider trading schemes.
Chile boots 50 illegals involved in rioting — mostly from Cuba and Venezuela
From the link; QUOTE: More to the point, could these agitators have embedded among the refugee population, the better to be in the ground to stir up trouble? In Chile, it's not as far-fetched as it sounds. Chileans have already been invaded and taken over — by Fidel Castro, no less, who made an alliance from hell with Soviet agent cum Chilean president Salvador Allende in the early 1970s. Cubans, North Koreans, and other agents provocateurs were dispatched to the country at the time, and they took over. Salvador Allende's daughter Beatriz married a Cuban, Luis Fernández Oña. The wiki entry on Beatriz Allende calls him a "Cuban diplomat." No, he was a Cuban intelligence agent. The wiki entry on the DGI, the Cuban intelligece, agency admits it. Dirección de Inteligencia.QUOTE: Shortly after the election of Salvador Allende as president of Chile in November 1970, the DI worked extremely closely to strengthen Allende's increasingly precarious position.[citation needed] The Cuban DI station chief Luis Fernández Oña married Allende's daughter Beatriz, who later committed suicide in Cuba. The daughter of President Allende marrying a Cuban intelligence agent is a rather good indication of the influence Castro had on Allende.Bombings in Malmo
They should make bombs illegal. the left hates America because America is a symbol of everything that proves that leftist ideology is inferior to pretty much everything else out there.
