Anyone else laugh over the optics of a Halloween passage of "rules in case we impeach which are tailored for a Witch Hunt"? They just can't help themselves can they?

People used to tell me that about Venezuela over 20 years ago, when I was working in that region, and I used to tell them, 'You ain't seen nothin' yet.' And even though Venezuela is getting desperate, their trajectory remains unchanged because its people are still passively accepting, more or less. Why? Because the able and smart ones are already gone. California is worse than most states on many metrics now, but they have not yet begun to plumb the depths. There's a lot of misery still to come. The good news is, the government doesn't shoot or starve people there - yet. It boggles the mind that people could choose to have that kind of governance and accept being unable to react to such a long run of failed results.

Someone recently - I Think I read it on the Declination blog was commenting on the sheepish quality of Zimbabwe. How they are all going to starve -- Again, becuase their rulers killed off the white farmers and/or confiscated their farms which now lay idle.

Basically, thats why they break your spirit first. Because apathy and destroying the customs, traditions and ties that bind each other together to work together is necessary for the road to the 'ism' to succeed; totalitarianism, communism, fascism, whichever brand of 'ism' the country is headed towards.

I agree with you about the guns, but there's more to dangerous passivity than being unarmed. I'm finding Vladimir Bukovsky's book a revelation. He dwells on the passivity that leads a socialist population to stay in harness. His whole life was about refusal to submit, even under the most appalling conditions, in Soviet prisons. It's always so tempting to think it's useless, but every single individual act of rebellion is a threat to the rulers.

Trump is the master of calling the bluff. These Democrat demands for documents and transcripts are a fishing expedition. Trump will probably resist this as he should. But he should turn the tables on them. All of Obama's transcripts and phone calls and deals are still locked in a vault. He should do a massive release of everything Obama did in his 8 years in office. Let the fishing tournament begin!

Reading Powerline and Andrew McCarthy, who have been the most reliable sources over the last three years, it is sad to reflect that most of impeachment is going to revolve around appearances and PR, not facts. We always knew this would be somewhat true, but it is discouraging that it will be so much. Democrats are very good at appearances and PR, and despite the losses of influence that traditional media has experienced, their reach is still great.

My asthma medication was banned by Obama in 2009 because of then global warming. I’ve never found a good replacement and my lung function has reduced by about 30%. Some people have died because of the lack of meds. This illustrates the cruelty of the climate warriors - ideology over people’s lives.

Some degree of increasing globalization is inevitable and some of it will be beneficial to all, sometimes directly, like cheap consumer goods and sometimes indirectly, such as an emerging world wide middle class. Obviously the benefits for the skimming class are greater than for the rest of us. Like all trends, globalization is a bundle of plus and minus tradeoffs. But, by no means, is it a win,win for everyone everywhere, especially for the mid level managers and workers. It is surprising that the Globalists have not bothered to make their case or have been so ineffectual in doing so.

Impeachment Farce. I know I am not their target audience so maybe that is why I don't get what they hope to gain. I can't tell if they painted themselves into a corner or if it all is going to plan. I realize that this drama underwrites their fund raising but so what, it helps Trump and Republicans every bit as much. It appears that they put all their chips on the smarmy lawfare goons. Ergo, it is about deception, bullying, and... perverting due process...; the goal is to exhaust the target mentally, emotionally, and financially. I suppose in that respect, it is a wonder that they haven't succeeded.
Since this isn't a judicial proceeding, the House Majority calls the shots and can derail standard American jurisprudence, which they chose to do. It's obvious they can't run this impeachment effort, on the level, or you wind up with the Kavanaugh debacle. It sure does illustrate the value and importance of juries, to sort out the truth from contradictory witnesses, and why we have rules of evidence. It's puzzling though. Liars are a dime a dozen, especially if there is a payday involved. How come they can't find any credible liars?

I really think they never expected it to play out like this.

Rosenstein was supposed to nod gravely as he accepted the Mueller report with Weismann's novel theory that the DOJ couldn't indict a sitting President but one could be guilty of obstruction from exercising his Article II powers even if no criminal activity was identified. Thus the baton would be handed to the House for impeachment with full access to all of Mueller's notes and grand jury material, courtesy of a compliant DC Circuit judge, without all the unnecessary fuss (and messy recorded votes) of actually authorizing an Impeachment proceeding.

Barr totally blew that out of the water by not only stating the DOJ could make an indictment decision against a sitting President but that in this case they were going to decline to do it due to lack of evidence, and Rosenstein could only stand by and nod in agreement. This left the House Dems high and dry trying to conjure an impeachment out of basically nothing, as well as getting stuck having to put their fingerprints all over every party line vote.

They might yet get access to Mueller's info but it's going to make the impeachment even more of a partisan affair since they no longer have the cover of an 'impartial', i.e. headed by Deep State apparatchik like Rosenstein, DOJ and Special Counsel.

Thought someone would have commented on The Queen (of England) calling her grandchildren's bluff about huffing and puffing and getting their way. She is upset with them about displaying their dirty laundry. Wonder how much Meagan wants to be married to a commoner? I took this as political correctness being pushed back, unfortunately they may move to the US.
