I think the primary thrust of the post by Miss Bliss - the mental imagery of the tragedies that befall those we care for and how to cope with it - reveals that solutions to the emotions and our responses to them start with unpackinng the circumstances of the tragedy.
Rage at people that treat treat those we care for with barbarity, bewilderment at deaths that from an outside point of view would have us laughing like the event was dark comedy written for us, surprise at the suddenness of of a motorcyclist run over in front of you, the daily grind of a long terminal illness that evokes the desire to see someone you’ve been most attached to hurry up and get better or just die...
It’s a unique process for each and every one of us that I suspect may be helped more by first seeing the internal and external wounds for what they are prior to rushing to put emotional band aids upon them.
Sitting back and actually doing nothing but observing runs counter to a care givers primary instinct but in most cases it really is helpful to not just start “pushing the buttons” to try and immediately turn off the pain.
