We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The strongest economy? I don't believe that for a minute. All I see are people who are one paycheck away from disaster. A strong economy is supposed to represent low anxiety, job security, and economic growth. We don't have any of those things. Numbers alone don't mean anything. What we have is a governmentalized, corporatized, unionized, computerized, mess.
America is teetering on the brink of a meltdown.
A lot depends on how you compare economies. By total GDP, per capita GDP, employment and probably a few other measures, nobody's close. Our economic growth, while not as good as we'd want is better than any other established economies, but we lag economies that are more in the "emerging" category.
Anxiety and security are highly related to the news media which has nothing good to say about anything related to Trump. I'm not in the job market but I would think that with high employment and high productivity, there should be pretty decent jod security.
That's not to say that there aren't things to worry about - debt, AI, and Democrats - to name a few. But overall, things are bubbling along.
