Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The article about Medieval Studies was discouraging, but not unexpected.
The ones going along don't realise that they are next, unless they submit ever-further. Those late in their careers likely hope to outrun them before retirement. The new, young ones are assuming they will be among the leaders. They won't. There is not a set of ideas that the invaders wish to install. It is themselves which they wish to install, using whatever weapons come to hand. Worse, for some the point is not only succeeding themselves but in destroying others for its own sake. How will academics pursue real scholarship in an environment where everyone is preoccupied with fighting the SJW's phantom demons?
One wonders to what degree this hysteria is retarding research in all fields? It still boggles my feeble mind that it has been allowed to happen. Wretchard has a piece at Belmont Club that while on the topic of the little Texas boy's pending sex change, has to do with the topic at hand here as well.
QUOTE: The role of peer and social pressure in behavior is significant. Prior to the advent of digital social media what was called 'epidemic hysteria' spread mostly within within groups such as Middle Age villages, 18th century factories, 20th century schools and the like. They spread among those who talked to each other. But the prevalence of mobile devices now means that 'groups' are no longer physically confined . . . . Psychologist Romeo Vitelli argues that mass psychogenic illness of all sorts have become more common as social media's coverage spread. A 2013 Atlantic article noted similarities between modern episodes and the Salem witch incident suggesting the same mechanisms were at work. The article said there is “potential for a far greater or global episode, unless we quickly understand how social media is, for the first time, acting as the primary vector or agent of spread for conversion disorder.” https://pjmedia.com/richardfernandez/the-day-of-the-witch/ It happens for one reason: People are cowards who think they're just being polite and non-confrontational. But if you don't stand up to a bully then and there, then by default you become the willing victim of a long term debasement. How many Germans thought the same thing, "how did this happen," in 1945? And still there are some even today that don't accept it happened because of them, collectively, not Adolph Hitler. It's happening now, in the USA. We have a bumper crop of psychopaths and they all have the entry code to the halls of power: Unbridled belligerence.
There is much in what you say Aggie.
While cowardice certainly does play a part, I am wondering if there is more to it? Once the concept of white guilt was accepted, perhaps self-loathing and the need for self-flagellation quickly followed? Maybe the thinking then is that one deserves to be bullied, and punished for said white guilt? Anyway, it's a toxic and malignant set of beliefs and I fear for where it is all headed. feeblemind - I think you're right there is more but it's not always an acceptance of guilt. It also entails having learned to navigate the structures as built, and prospering (for a time) under the new regime believing that you are protected because you are an 'ally'. (See AVI's comment)
I see this, sadly, playing out in my extended family.

i believe we're in the behavioral sink
It explains a lot of the self destructive and nihilistic behavior.

All of these disciplines should be combined into a single department of "Me Studies". They've switched from using the past to enlighten the present to projecting your own neuroses onto past events, and thereby declaring your own superiority to your predecessors. It's not as much about removing white, male influence as demanding to insert their own.
re The Religion of Climatism - A new faith emerges
This was a good read. The parallels to Bible verse were new to me. It's just 17th Century Calvinism with God removed and the Earth stuffed in His place. We are "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry Goddess." It is only by our actions that we can be shown to be among the elect destined for ultimate salvation. Any disagreement is not dissent to be engaged, but heresy to be rooted out and burned (in a totally carbon neutral way, of course).
Remember Al Gore went to divinity school prior to becoming a politician. This is what happens to a man of strong faith who loses sight of God. “When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything."
- G.K. Chesterton The "secret" to marriage: This isn’t a secret, it’s just out of fashion. It’s the way my husband and I always have approached our 36-year marriage. I’d leave if he completely failed to function as an adult partner, but for nothing less, and it would take a lot to make me reach that conclusion that he was irretrievably in that state. We all screw up. If he’s trying, I’m all in.
For most people the secret to staying married is to allow the partner with mental health issues to act out their craziness without complaint of reproach. The odds are that about 30% to 40% of marriages have one or both partners with mental health issues and the choice is to confront them when they act out, which probably won't end well, or to acquiesce to their crazy acts to keep the peace.
TMZ: "Hey Bill Nye, are you afraid of spiders?"
Bill Nye: "No, not especially. But Linda Picardo is an addict." Re: Hillary running in 2020. Things no longer follow our old scripts, as the elections of Obama and then Trump illustrate, so NH may no longer be as important as it once was. But the Democrats I speak to here say they are tired of her, and she has had her chance. It['s only a few months until the primary, so she would have to move fast. As I recall, she won narrowly in Iowa last time, lost badly to Bernie in NH, and won big in SC.
That NH victory is significant in that she still got more delegates than Sanders despite losing to him. She got all the behind-the-scenes, party-faithful Superdelegates. This pattern continued throughout the primaries, in that she did not do especially well, but the deck was stacked in her favor. It will not be stacked in her favor quite so much this time around. As much as conservatives might enjoy watching Democrats fight, I think a brokered convention would be too much of a wild card and I can't wish for it. I'm thinking a Hillary and Michelle ticket. I just don't think that most of the DNC want Warren or Bernie and while they may want Biden I suspect Biden is cursed and will only bring the party trouble. The sooner he drops out of the spotlight the better for all concerned. I have to say as much as I hate Hillary and dislike Michelle I think that team would get the popular vote and the electoral vote hands down.
Michelle would be a disaster in debate, but it might not matter.
Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama on the same ticket: two scorpions in a bottle.
In general I don't favor candidates for positions of power and influence whose credentials are the powerful men they married. In this case, I add the confused pseudo-Marxist leanings, though to her credit Clinton does appear to be some variety of capitalist, of the crony variety. Durham's probe … If you read nothing else today latch onto this piece on new evidence. https://www.pickeringpost.com/howellwoltz/12862/dead-men-dont-need-impeachment-swamp-in-panic-trump-in-danger/
While reading this with a little skepticism I was impressed with the citing of facts and inside information. I kinda laughed at the idea that Trump would be assassinated but as it became clear who was part of this treason and coup it dawned on me that like Mr. Epstein the elite could not afford to have Trump stay alive and well. If the story is true (especially the collusion with the 9/11 plot) and if all of those high placed people (including Obama and his entire cabinet) were as involved in these crimes as it looks like they were, the only choice is assassination or jail or worse. So what now?
Sometimes Althouse runs snap polls on issues, and I would like to exhort Maggies to do the same, when they feel like it. Here is one I would like to see on Epstein's demise:
Pick one: - JE committed suicide in his cell, unassisted, out of despondancy. - JE committed suicide in his cell, unassisted, because he knew he was a dead man walking if he testified, and wanted to control this last act. - JE committed suicide in his cell, but he had help. - JE was killed in his cell by his jailers or another prisoner, for his pedophilia crimes. - JE was assassinated in his cell by intelligence operatives. - JE was assassinated in his cell because he had the dirt on too many powerful people and could not be allowed to testify. They conspired it. I'm not too sure how to answer the poll but I do have some ideas on what happened. To commit suicide in the way described you tie the bed sheet above you and put it around your neck and slowly apply pressure by twisting or hanging such that it blocks the blood flow to your brain and then as you pass out gravity assures that you don't ever recover consciousness. Should be relatively painless and easy to do, tough emotionally but easy to accomplish. But Epstein had a couple of broken bones in his neck indicating that there was excessive force applied. This is not how someone would kill themselves by this method but it is exactly how someone would kill another person by this method especially if the other person was disagreeing with the plan. So Epstein was killed and I doubt any expert (including every doctor, paramedic and police) would concur. People just don't naturally choose the more painful method of suicide when a less painful method is easier (exception being Seppuku).
I also suspect that everyone in the MSM knows this as well and either agree with the murder or consider the murder to contain a warning and they have all (seemingly) sworn a silence agreement on this event. That fact too says so much. |
