Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re State Department...
JMHO - but post WW2 the emphasis was on rebuilding Germany and Japan so they were no longer a threat. After that, it was containment of the Soviet Union and Communist China. Absent the threat from those, you had an internal structure where the politically astute and motivated rose to power, while the competent folks who didn't want to play politics found better jobs elsewhere. GW2 and the Iraq rebuilding was an example of what happens when the reality is ignored in favor of 'Well, this is a good idea so let's go with it'. The results were decidedly mixed, and 15+ years on the decisions at the time seem... inexperienced. It almost seemed like the animosity against Bush was driving a lot of the decisions, doing things that they'd know were wrong but justified because it'd reflect badly on Bush. Now we're seeing people who are exceedingly political make no bones about just how political they are and how much they don't want to carry out the President's policies. It makes me wonder if they'd carry them out if the Prez had a (D) in the slot, instead of an (R) - if they're basing their decisions on that instead of what's good for the country. Robert Picardo's ex wife says he left her for...Bill Nye?
What did that private detective see, Bill? re Senator Pierre Delecto ends the career of Senator Mitt Romney
That may well be true but Sen Delecto is still going to be stabbing repubs in the back until 2024. I just wonder if Romney is really naïve enough to not realize that had he been elected, they'd be doing the same thing to him. He seems to have not grasped that the game being played is not about policy, it's about raw, naked power. There is no room for compromise in a zero-sum game: any power you have is power that I don't. If you have what they think by right should be theirs, they take it, by whatever means necessary.
Mittens is just one of MANY Koch-sucking Rove Republican swill. And he dances to the tune of his owner...

re Texas Jury: Father Can’t Stop Chemical Castration, Gender Change Of Seven-Year-Old Son
Why is this not child abuse?? It is child abuse. The jury should be ashamed. The mother should go to jail or get mental health care. The health professionals involved in this should go to jail. This is disgusting. It is unlikely that anyone should get surgical or medicinal sex change BUT if it is to happen it should at the least require that the individual be 18 YO or older. AND "we" shouldn't pay for it.
And what the hell is wrong with those eleven jurors? Disgusting.
If any mom threatened to mutilate her kid without claiming the shield of gender identity, child protection laws would be applied, and rightly so. So the only reason child protection laws are being suspended here is ideology. Again, how would this be any different from legalizing female genital mutilation inside the United States? Why is the gender identity rationale considered superior to the religious one?
Transing Children Is Child Abuse And Should Be Punished https://thefederalist.com/2019/10/23/transing-children-is-child-abuse-and-should-be-punished/ If the father had been suing for custody over the mother doing something less intrusive, permanent and risky than "gender reassignment" like getting a tattoo the case would have been open and shut and the mother would have lost.
It's okay because the victim is a boy.
If the wanted to "change" a girl into a boy they'd be on their way to prison. QUOTE: This week Angela Merkel finally admitted the “multicultural Germany” has failed. Stunning. Who would have thought that? “Merkel says German multicultural society has failed – BBC News” https://t.co/JVSmkOy1tA Sorry to see that the Fake News virus has now started to establish itself in (what used to be called) the conservative press. Who would have thought they would deceitfully portray a 2010 quote as something said this week? Not that I'm a Merkel fan, but I have seen this trickery in a few places now.....FAKE NEWS! Hang your head in shame. Good point. As you point out, the quote being presented as if Merkel said it this year shows how deceitful the press can be. Or how gullible the public is- myself included- for the first time I saw this I assumed she had said it this year.
It would have been better for Merkel that she had said this in 2019, as an admission that her "open the gates" immigration policy was a failure. Instead, having said it in 2010, she went ahead and promoted a policy that she previously said would fail. I guess that is an example of how politicians "evolve." State dept fighting presidents … the administrative state needs to be limited to no more than 5 years of employment in the federal government. Wilson referred to them as experts in their field but they are only statist experts. They want nothing to change or they could loose their jobs and they have the idea that the only good government is big government.
Not buying into the end of Senator Delecto’s career. Ted Kennedy let a women die, how many years did he serve in the Senate? Senator Warren, the fake indian? Fake Vietnam war hero Richard Blumenthal? Should I go on? Never underestimate the ignorance of the American voter.
Well, you know. it's DIFFERENT for DEMOCRATS
How the Hillary Clinton campaign deliberately "elevated" Donald Trump: Hillary did good for America! Amazed, I am. Not that Hill was intending that, of course. That SALON story was a GREAT pick-me-up! (Silly Leftists.) Any Americans living in ANY area of Mexico, even the so-called "safe" areas, get out NOW!
You've depended on a fiction that the country is civilized. Not so anymore. Heck, it wasn't even so in the best of times -- no non-Mexican can own the land their house is on, there's not even a semblance of justice for any foreigner in Mexican courts, civil or criminal, unless you have the cash to buy "justice". And let's not forget that Mexico is the land of the "mordida", the monetary bite of cops and civil servants to do their jobs as they should. Better get out while the getting is good, because the USA is not going to do a damn thing to save you once your status changes from "resident" to "hostage". I am reminded of a neighbor whose grandparents fled Mexico during the Mexican Revolution, about a hundred years ago. BTW, he speaks w a Texas drawl.
The Pathocracy of the Deep State: Tyranny at the Hands of a Psychopathic Government
QUOTE: There is no difference between psychopaths and politicians. Nor is there much of a difference between the havoc wreaked on innocent lives by uncaring, unfeeling, selfish, irresponsible, parasitic criminals and elected officials who lie to their constituents, trade political favors for campaign contributions, turn a blind eye to the wishes of the electorate, cheat taxpayers out of hard-earned dollars, favor the corporate elite, entrench the military industrial complex, and spare little thought for the impact their thoughtless actions and hastily passed legislation might have on defenseless citizens. Psychopaths and politicians both have a tendency to be selfish, callous, remorseless users of others, irresponsible, pathological liars, glib, con artists, lacking in remorse and shallow. Charismatic politicians, like criminal psychopaths, exhibit a failure to accept responsibility for their actions, have a high sense of self-worth, are chronically unstable, have socially deviant lifestyles, need constant stimulation, have parasitic lifestyles and possess unrealistic goals. It doesn’t matter whether you’re talking about Democrats or Republicans. Political psychopaths are all largely cut from the same pathological cloth, brimming with seemingly easy charm and boasting calculating minds. Such leaders eventually create pathocracies: totalitarian societies bent on power, control, and destruction of both freedom in general and those who exercise their freedoms. https://www.rutherford.org/publications_resources/john_whiteheads_commentary/the_pathocracy_of_the_deep_state_tyranny_at_the_hands_of_a_psychopathic_government Oil companies rejected by Supreme Court on climate change suits
The U.S. Supreme Court let government officials press ahead with three lawsuits that accuse more than a dozen oil and gas companies of contributing to climate change. https://www.chron.com/business/energy/article/Oil-Companies-Rejected-by-Supreme-Court-on-14555640.php Wait a minute! Are the lights still on at SCOTUS? Did the justices drive (get driven) to court. This kind of law suit must be the stupidest thing to any honest and educated person. The oil companies are in business for one reason only and that is that there is a market for their legal product. How could this possibly be interpreted as a legal fault of the oil companies? Oh! That's right. Deep pockets...
Concur One Guy.
Apparently this was about shifting the venue from state to Federal Court, in this case Maryland. What they should do is just quit delivering petroleum products to the states that are suing them for 'Climate Change' until the charges are dropped. Then watch the pols howl when the chaos begins. Re: Pierre and Mitt
I think by any reasonable measure Romney would have made a better president than Obama did. The exposure of Mitt's baffoonish use of his alter ego tells you just how low a bar that is! Wariness of bureaucracies is not new.
There are a lot of great bureaucracy quotes: Every revolution evaporates and leaves behind only the slime of a new bureaucracy. FRANZ KAFKA, attributed, The Concise Columbia Dictionary of Quotations Bureaucracy is a giant mechanism operated by pygmies. HONORE DE BALZAC, attributed, The Harper Book of Quotations Some third person decides your fate: this is the whole essence of bureaucracy. KOLLONTAI ALEXANDRA, La Oposición Obrera Bureaucracies force us to practice nonsense. And if you rehearse nonsense, you may one day find yourself the victim of it. LAURENCE GONZALES, Everyday Survival Bureaucracy defends the status quo long past the time when the quo has lost its status. LAURENCE J. PETER, Peter Prescription Whether the mask is labeled fascism, democracy, or dictatorship of the proletariat, our great adversary remains the apparatus—the bureaucracy, the police, the military. Not the one facing us across the frontier of the battle lines, which is not so much our enemy as our brothers' enemy, but the one that calls itself our protector and makes us its slaves. No matter what the circumstances, the worst betrayal will always be to subordinate ourselves to this apparatus and to trample underfoot, in its service, all human values in ourselves and in others. Don't overlook, Mancur Olsen or Eric Hoffa. Edward T. Hall on Bureaucracy: Bureaucracies are the greatest obstacle to Progress. …. Edward Hall was the pioneer who wrote “Beyond Culture” (the 70s, I think). “By their very nature bureaucracies have no conscience, no memory and no mind. They are self-serving, amoral and live forever. What could be more irrational? Changing them is almost impossible, because they function according to their own rules and bow to no man, not even the President of the United States. Custom, human frailties, and the will to power keep our bureaucracies going. … Paradoxically, most bureaucracies are staffed largely with conscientious, committed people who are trying to do the right thing, but they are powerless (or feel powerless) to change things. None of which would be so serious if it weren’t that these are the very institutions on which we depend to solve all our major problems. Some answer must be found to bureaucracy.” “Bureaucratic and institutional irrationality occur because, of all man’s institutions, bureaucracy in all cultures has a tremendous potential to be counterproductive. This drive toward inefficiency may be a direct consequence of blind adherence to procedure, but it also stems from bureaucratic needs for self-preservation and a vulnerability to pressure groups. The combination is unbeatable.” “Bureaucracy on the life-destroying scale described by Edward T. Hall is an industrial era phenomenon. Only a bureaucracy can turn ordinary, decent people into participants in gigantic atrocities that go on and on, and absolve the people who operate the government machine from personal responsibility for the consequences." ...Think about being subject to globalist bureaucrats, those who live on the other side of the world and have no skin in the game. That's what your betters have in mind for you.... That should keep you up at night. Canada has a failing state south of the border.
The US has a failed state south of the border. A couple of the links refer to older events. Salon and Merkel.
Actually the father can stop the mother from abusing the son, but it would be a felony...
