We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

My observation is that most of them quit looking a long time ago. An invented crisis is much more easily tailored to their outcomes, and much harder to disprove. After all, if it didn't exist, it would be impossible to produce evidence to disprove it. In that respect, they remind me of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. If there are any Douglas Adam's fans here, I'm sure they'll readily notice the similariy.

The Democrats and the media are refusing to accept the results of the 2016 election? Surely you jest! Why, I remember quite clearly how horrified they all were at Trump's suggestion that he might not accept the results of the election when challenged to do so by Hillary. Undermining faith in our most sacred institutions he was! Questioning the legitimacy of our elections system! He might as well be calling for doing away with the Electoral College or packing the Supreme Court or ending proportional representation among the states in the Senate or other means of fundamentally transforming the United States! The horror! How terrible! How unthinkable! Why, to think that Democrats and the media are now doing the very thing they so strongly condemned at the mere suggestion that the other side might be thinking of doing it is to suggest that they might be hypocritical or even, dare I say it?, been engaging in projection in accusing the other side of planning to do the very thing they themselves were planning to do. That doesn't sound like them at all.

Of course. Because the proles are too stupid to know what is in their best interests, and who knows? Perhaps there is more opportunity for graft in the rail projects?

In any event, highways and by extension, autos, need to be phased out to fight the nebulous 'climate change'. So why repair the existing roads?

President Trump is perfecting his method of improving the life of America's Main Street by using economic sanctions, now considered a useful tactic by Ukraine's new president and, apparently, OK with Mexico's president. It sure is easier to swallow than rounding up thousands of your finest youth, handing them arms, and sending them to far-off lands to fight for ? The latter sets a bad example for countries less educated to democratic ways. We should be the grown-ups in the room.

On climate change: yes, it changes. So do sun spots and the orbit of the moon around the earth and the earth around the sun. If these activists want to volunteer for something worthwhile, clean up the garbage and plastics smothering our oceans. beaches and parks. Plant a few trees, euphorbias or cacti...and add a vegetable garden to your yard, patio.or potch. Lots of good eats grow in pots.
