My discomfort in the last few years, first with Russiagate and now with Ukrainegate and impeachment, stems from the belief that the people pushing hardest for Trump’s early removal are more dangerous than Trump. Many Americans don’t see this because they’re not used to waking up in a country where you’re not sure who the president will be by nightfall. They don’t understand that this predicament is worse than having a bad president.

The Trump presidency is the first to reveal a full-blown schism between the intelligence community and the White House. Senior figures in the CIA, NSA, FBI and other agencies made an open break from their would-be boss before Trump’s inauguration, commencing a public war of leaks that has not stopped...

What do you mean "Would-be" Boss? He's the actual Boss.
And he's probably the first President to tell those guys that they aren't doing a good job. Washington is nothing but a big collection of deeply-entrenched freeloaders. They don't need a President telling them what to do. They already have a schedule:
Get to work at 9:00, Send an e-mail. Go to lunch with the Agency Credit Card. Tony Roma's should be nice, they have good Mojito's. In the afternoon, meet with somebody to discuss something. Then it's time to go to the Health Club! The membership is included.

Anyone who lived through the 2000 elections remembers waking up for weeks not knowing who our new president would be.

I think the essence of this conflict is that Trump is the politician with no past, and he owes no favors - and is therefore uncontrollable. Taibbi is right when he asserts that the insubordination on the part of the exiled Democratic / Bureaucratic power structure is without precedent - it's a concerted, focused operation. What isn't mentioned is, if these people are willing to go to these extremes with this campaign of relentless skulduggery, what will it take to get them to stop? I don't think they'll willingly stop. There are sufficient numbers for them to accept the idea of causalities. I fear anihilation is going to be the only effective solution.

I agree. He owes them nothing and therefore must be destroyed. He began with no one he could trust. Sessions caved after 5 minutes. Flynn was destroyed. Trump's kids may not be the best on policy but he can trust them.

I think Rand Paul is growing on me and could be a factor in 2024.

The general public gets excited enough by sexy stuff that it cannot think clearly. Think back. Conservatives tried for years to get rid of Bill Clinton, and at least half the time had very good actual evidence. But only when sexy stories came on the scene did the general public get all that interested. The Democrats kept accusing the Republicans of being obsessed with sex, but that wasn't even half-true. They themselves were obsessed with defending his sex, while the Republicans kept trying - unsuccessfully - to focus everyone's attention on misleading a grand jury, in addition to other corruption.

There was lots of general interest in getting rid of Trump for any reason at all, but the story about Trump/Putin/prostitutes/Moscow was what lit everyone up. Everyone wondered if it were true, rather than being shocked that our intelligence agencies could act this way, which was, and is, a much bigger story. Taibbi has that absolutely right.

Liberals will continue to hate him regardless, and conservatives will vote for him even if they don't like him. The group in the middle will largely follow the sexy stories. Ilhan Omar has been seriously dangerous and corrupt since long before her election, but she's only been in serious trouble since the affair came out. Though she's a Democrat, and it may blow over.

It's all about making China happy. The negotiations to open China required that the American population become "less independent".

If the head of the FBI, NSA and CIA cannot control the illegal and unconstitutional acts of their employees then clearly they should be fired and replaced with someone who can. It is time for a purge in the intelligence and federal law enforcement communities.

There are too many agencies. Too many permanent powerful agencies with too many employees that shuffle paper or email for a very good living. . There are around 2 million Federal Employees and they run the country. The EPA has thirty five thousand employees in DC for instance. Every state has a state EPA too. Move them out of DC and the whole cabal will fall apart.
