Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

QUOTE: "The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." H. L. Mencken. First the public must clamor for Regulation! of this dangerous product that is attacking our children and rotting out our society. Then the Bureaucracy must study and evaluate the product safety while pillorying the Big Tobacco company executives for their evil machinations in Congressional Hearings. Then Regulation! will follow and society will be safe again. Oh, almost forgot to mention - we'll be taxing the sh*t out of this stuff, too. Which is actually the whole point of the drama. Oh, and that black market crap that's causing all the problems? Yeah, we can't actually figure out how to tax that or make it any more illegal so...tell your kids not to use that stuff. Re the Clean Kill -
Nope. That won't kill it. CAGW has taken on the status of a religion for some. They WANT, desperately, for there to be a looming apocalypse they can fight against. And it doesn't matter whether the fight works, whether the fight is counterproductive, whether the fight beggars Western economies, whether other countries even join in the fight. What matters is THEY can feel good by 'fighting global warming'. THEY believe their sacrifice (of everyone else's lifestyle) will appease the Climate Gods. And even suggesting that there ISN'T CAGW, that there are natural warming and cooling cycles, and that maybe CO2 doesn't have anywhere near the power it does is like attempting to convince a devout believer that there's no such thing as Heaven. You're a heretic - and you're evil. [b] Re: rail transit stats[/]
"Correlation does not equal causation" ! Just reporting numbers does not give an indication of why. Here's a thought for you: maybe fewer people are using the new rail systems because they are so poorly designed/planned. Making a business commuter ride through a very poor neighborhood of crime and color in order to extend service to those areas will not work. Has not worked. The concomitant level of tolerated filth on the interior of the vehicle will also impact the numbers. Two levels of service in terms of ticket price and the quality of the vehicles one is paying for has an enormous impact on ridership. Forcing everyone into the same rolling pigsty is just insane. Trains are efficient at moving large numbers of people from point A to point B at a particular time. They are useless when smaller numbers want to go from point A to points C, D, E, and F; that train still runs to point B.
A rubber-tired bus can go to point B today, C on Tuesday, D Wednesday morning and E Wednesday afternoon. And when no one want's to go to F any more, there's no sunk cost of tracks and terminals no longer being used. Agree. There is a big difference between having an opportunity to ride and a need to ride. The second might pay; the first won't pay.
Re: buses moving faster. Yep, if they don't get buried in traffic jams. Seattle is proving that buses are not more efficient. Just don't tell the unions!
Ah, so you know why. And when the trains are clean and go through nice places and still lose money, why is that, then?
At least good old Tailgunner Joe had the foresight to get his numbers off of a ketchup bottle. Were I a Republican rep I'd be introducing a resolution calling for censure and Schiff's recusal for any impeachment related matters. Sure it won't go anywhere, but force Democrats to publicly state that a prosecutor falsifying evidence is no big deal - something that would go over big with some of their core demographics.
Not that it will penetrate his far left noggin, but I emailed my rep today on that very subject. When Congress critters feel comfortable making up tall tales, such what Schiff did yesterday, we have entered very dangerous territory. As if the attempted coup from deep state isn’t bad enough.
Ditto on writing my rep. What Schiff did is to read fiction into the official Congressional Record. In the same way that the Steele Dossier was gamed to invest an air of credibility for the FISA court warrants, this fiction is being gamed by applying a mantle of credibility - the Congressional Record - so that in future the words can be back quoted as if they were, in some way, credible - all while they are a complete fiction, and a derogatory and demeaning one at that. The House leadership is a disgrace to decent governance.
Auto generated taxes pay for the road system. Require rail generated taxes to pay for the rail system.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF ADAM SCHIFF’S “PARODY"
Pundits are misreading him. He's a lawyer using courtroom theatrics to show points with the jury. He'll get away with whatever he can. Am I the only one who sees Adam Schiff and Andy Kaufman a twins separated at birth?
Amazed that someone is calling Schiff "Lotka." |
