Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Robert Hunter, RIP

Dead at 78. As I said recently, never a Deadhead but spent a lot of time with them on the Sirius Dead channel in my new car due to not reading the instructions. Maybe Garcia was "Captain Trips" but the music did not seem like that.  Hunter was an American folklorist, as is Dylan and as was The Band.


The Grateful Dead lyricist filled a generation with a sense of amused, loving, liberatory patriotism.


Here are two versions of Ripple, one by the Dead and one by Hunter alone.

I used to say we will be grateful when they are... Not so grateful and not so sure now. We still have Jerry Day in McClaren Park, come on bye

Freshman at UC Santa Barbara in late 70s.......was pretty innocent of the GD 'til I started hangin with a lot of Bay Area people. You absorbed the Dead through osmosis in a place like Santa Barbara. Yeah, they grew on me. Helps if you are open to all kinds of music, and especially much older music (bluegrass, blues, traditionals.....which is a barrier to most people. ) Thankfully I was. The shows were fun too..
