Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Maine, NH, and VT are always the safest states, and have been since colonial times. I am in favor of gun permissions of many kinds, but that's not the major reason for recent safety.
RE: Maine & Discreet Carry
With a Gov. like this Maine will surely revert to less favorable conditions: Governor Mills Statement on Ranked Choice Voting for Presidential Primary and General Elections in Maine ...yeah go for it... Governor Mills and Efficiency Maine Launch Electric Vehicle Rebate Program ...of course someone somewhere will pay for that rebate... Governor Mills Announces Maine Will Pursue a State-Based Health Insurance Marketplace Under the Affordable Care Act...what can one say? Open carry: Is Walmart banning all guns or just "open carry" guns? If all guns, how will Walmart detect people who are carrying concealed weapons? Is Walmart just asking politely and relying on cooperation or do they have a plan to enforce it? Are they going to search purses?
If this policy only refers to open carry, color me baffled. I can count on one hand the number of people I have seen carrying a visible gun, LEOs excepted. Are there places in the country where open carry is commonplace in retail establishments? My understanding is it's open carry only, not concealed.
I'm with you. I've never seen a gun openly carried anywhere, much less a retail establishment, by a civilian. This is simply those stores bowing to the SJW mob. Thanks, I thought that must be the case. Kind of pointless IMHO.
Yet, I suppose there might be areas where open carry would be more commonplace, like Montana. It's all about keeping the snowflakes from needing institutionalization after being triggered by reality. Walmart and the others don't want their pussyhat customers sprawled on the floor in temper tantrums. Personally I don't open carry as it garners attention from those who may wish to take it by forcible ambush. I am living in a state with Constitutional carry so no need to open carry.
Arizona and Idaho. In neither case did it appear anybody gave a shit.
re Brexit Has Its Risks. But Staying In The EU Is Now Unthinkable.
Except that it will stay in for the forseeable future. As I understand it, the passage of the latest bill makes it illegal for the UK to leave the EU without a negotiated agreement. That leaves no incentive for the EU to negotiate. For the ruling class it is mission accomplished. 3 years and counting since the little people voted to leave and the ruling class has continued to flip the peasants the political finger. UK is no closer to getting out now than at the time of the vote. Ha. I know exactly where that sign is.
QUOTE: If they were next to criticize Jesus for his failure to acknowledge his “male privilege,” would anyone be surprised? I wouldn’t be surprised to hear a radical Episcopalian feminist decry the Lord for sending a son. The world would have been so much better had he sent his only begotten daughter. Of course the radical feminist wouldn’t acknowledge Him as a he. The word of the Lord is all about picking and choosing what we like best, disregarding the rest.Making Jesus gay by putting him into a relationship with John seems fashionable. Any thing to emasculate Him.
The political activism is more the symptom than the disease. As an institution, they abandoned what we're their first principles for convenience, and have been on a search for a substitute religion ever since. Back in the late-'80s, when my erstwhile rector began to openly promote lhe secularist lurch, I asked why anybody would spend a Sunday morning paying to listen to the sort of political harangues many of us got paid to listen to at work. He could only glare in response.
As time went on, and the hierarchy began to go full SJW, I asked what the point of maintaining a veneer of Christianity if repentance and redemption were no longer part of their world. He changed the subject. At that point, I quoted Zhivago's response to his brother, Yevgrav, and put my boat over the side. Three years later, my wife jumped, leaving the church she'd known since she was nine, and I fished her out. It's been two decades and she still hurts over this. And so they find themselves circling the drain, in the very dilemma Nietzche anticipated: QUOTE: God is dead. ... And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? ... What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it? Maine and Vermont are mostly happy white folk...turns out that matters.
So how and why did Joe Bob Briggs turn a piece about SJWs ruining comedy into scolding Pres. Trump?
Pretty lame. WaPoo's "Lost Summer": May it continue for the next 6 years...and loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonger!
Media's embrace of 'climate crisis' raises alarm about journalistic objectivity: Naaaaaaaaaah; we KNOW there's no such thing! " Media's embrace of 'climate crisis' raises alarm about journalistic objectivity": LYING for her cause. Ask Bill Nye the Science Fraud about his previous divorce, and how he spitefully destroyed some of her belongings on an episode of his show - specifically, throwing her stuff off the roof as a demonstration of how gravity works.
"Maine rated the safest state in the nation for crime" fine, but what is the safest state in the nation for people?
