We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Nike figured it out ages ago: pretending to be woke works wonders to reduce complaints about child labor and other unsavory practices. Plus - at least for Nike - every media controversy is free advertising towards their core audience.
Because of my employment in supply chain compliance, I try to buy American. I don't think most Americans realize how much they enable, at the very least, coerced labor (by threat of physical violence, fraud, or extortion), child labor, or human tracking when they purchase consumer goods. This phenomenon is brought to you by who else: the Globalists, Davos caste, the multinationals, and Wall Street, supported by their pimps and shills in government and media. While it is true that consumers benefit, they are the primary beneficiaries.
It's very difficult to calculate the costs and benefits of cheap imports.
Given that, I revert to freedom: Consumers can spend their money as they see fit, it's their damn money, not yours, not mine, not that of any level of government.
Do not ever forget the absurdly high prices the small town merchants charged before Wal-Mart. It often was a case of the huge majority of consumers being over-charged for the benefit of a very small number of business owners and their employees.
Of course, as Judge Bork pointed out years ago. I think most people would be happy for a level playing field and fair trade, taking into account above board labor and environmental practices, a diversified economy for national security, and minimizing the risk and damage of invasive species.
