We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
re Baseball's future: Declining attendance – and shrinking stadiums to match
Stadiums are being made smaller to better match attendance, but then some of them were built much to large to start with. Most teams don't stand a chance of packing in 50,000 per game over an 81 game home season. It's just too many games to generate that kind of demand.
Compare baseball's attendance figures to those of 50 years ago and they are doing quite nicely.
Attendance is down this season, marginally.
I think the article is overly pessimistic.
Baseball's big worry might well be the decline of cable viewership.
Imagine if China attacked/bombed all our bases and ships in the Indo-Pacific. The death toll of military, dependents and random civilians would exceed a million people. Do you suppose that such a horrific attack and death toll wouldn't cause a response of 1000 or so nukes dropped on mainland China???
Re: 10 declassified Russia collusion revelations that could rock Washington this fall
I have no doubt that there are serious revelations to be declassified and exposed and I welcome that. It should have been done long ago and anybody who has been slow-walking the release of subpoenaed documents should have been fired. But I'm a little bit weary about all these "bombshell" releases that are supposed to be coming. First, the media, writ large, will ignore it and second, they mean nothing unless someone is indicted and convicted. That will be much harder to ignore.
So I applaud the release of all of the hidden documents related to Russia-gate but wake me up when somebody gets indicted.
