We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
That conservation plate might be even less popular than a Trump-Pence sticker, and that's saying a lot up there. Several beaches closed this week on Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha's Vineyard due to White Sharks near shore. There are human risks to conservation - in this case, seal conservation. Now Massachusetts has become one of the world's largest White Shark congregations.
But who could ever have imagined there might be unintended consequences to the simple act of fixing the ecology of one small part of one single ocean? I'm sure there's no lesson to be learned here when we set about re-ordering the climate of the entire planet.
Just returned from a weekend getaway on Washburn Island for the first time... Ate from the sea whatever we harvested... clams, bluefish, lobster... campfire into the wee hours, alcohol may have been involved... I think I'll go back tomorrow. Absolutely perfick!
