Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Seems difficult to believe that plastics can't mostly be recycled - but I guess part of this is due to the low cost of replacement with the current low price of hydrocarbons.
Burying the stuff in a landfill ticks the box for the greenies in carbon capture - they get to claim that this is locking up carbon and lowering C02, which is to me, a spurious claim. To me it would make much more sense to incinerate. Technology allows this to be done without the harmful side products like benzene and dioxins. It could be used to manufacture cement or generate electricity, albeit at lower efficiencies than a gas-powered powergen plant (which have become very efficient as their usage increases). But at least then it wouldn't be putting it into the environment as a long-term feature. And it often is the case that when something becomes commonplace, technological interest leads to performance improvements, sometimes dramatic ones. Of course the notion of burning anything drives greenies into a frenzy of hyperventillation. I wonder if anyone has ever tried to measure the excess spikes of C02 resulting from such reactions.... There is another way of looking at the plastics issue and it's the one I use. I see buried plastics as a savings account against future shortages of plastic raw ingredients. If we should ever need them we know right where they are.
Our local solid waste all goes to an incinerator which produces power. In an area of 400,000 people, only 4 trucks of recycling are processed every day, the rest gets showed right in the furnace with the soup bones. Turns out there is no market for dirty plastic but it makes great fuel! Omar fired the first shot saying why can't Tucker Carlson and other natural born americans assimilate - new people "like her" are "more american". That got relative crickets at least on the left in terms of offensive speech - or actually much agreement and propagation of the idea that has been lurking in smaller circles but thems fightin words. Just as Harris fired the first shot and got rewarded for calling Biden racist (another attack on the "old culture") so naturally others were going to go there in the Diem party. You get more of what you reward. IMO Trump hit back because that's how you stop getting more of the insanity and that's consistent with the american natural born culture. It was a culture clash reveal or as the headline observes, moving the Overton back where it belongs. Bravo. Especially because of the chilling of speech via social media - who else can say what sometimes needs saying? I also suspect there are a lot of conservatives that have to listen to jonny come lately from California or back east who "just got out in time" give advice to the backward natural born of the state how things in civilization are done.
I only listened to a few moments of the press conference - turned it off when I heard "We have to impeach Trump for his lawless behavior."
They're apparently under a belief that if they just claim something frequently and loudly enough it'll magically become true. Because I'm not seeing anything Trump could actually be impeached for. You may not LIKE Trump, but that's not impeachable. Rescuing a black teenage girl from a s#!thole country run by actual misogynists, feeding, clothing, and educating her then electing her to a high government position would seem to be doing both racism and sexism wrong.
But what do I know, I'm an old white guy. Omar is a fake American. She doesn't like America, she doesn't like Americans and she was elected by like minded people to sabotage America and harm the American people.
News outlets with conservative tones are making great hay about the 9% approval rating enjoyed by Omar, as well as similarly low numbers for AOC and the rest of the Jihad Squad. This matters not one bit. What matters is the response of the voting constituency in their respective districts to these events. One look at the demographics in their respective American 3rd-world nouveau enclave sh*tholes (thank you, immigration policy for creating these concentrated ghettos) might easily reveal that their chances of re-election are improving, not crashing.
It is important to know that Obama (also a fake American) did this (created little shithole countries in some of our cities) intentionally. There is a conspiracy to destroy America. Not with nukes or armies but with propaganda and fake American leaders who will destroy us from within.
Re stereotyping: I've never understood the assertion that one's skin color or sexual preference should (or even must) inform your opinion of Keynesian economics.
About the exercise myths:
It's so true about the ab workouts. Do 'em all you want, but you won't get any definition without dieting. So many people exercise in order to give themselves an excuse to pig out, and it's all a disaster. I tell my female friends, when you're light enough and strong enough to do an honest pull up, then you'll start seeing some definition. "VD in the 18th Century " It isn't just in the 18th century, while doing research genealogy on my spouses family I was reviewing the death certificates after 1910. A number of males in the family have syphilis listed as their cause of death. Men about town perhaps?
re VD in the 18th Century
I was surprised to read that contracting VD was a"badge of honor." It reminds me of what I believer were called "bug chasers" in the homosexual community. They were men that thought the most erotic thing in the world would be the moment they contracted the AIDS virus. They went looking for it. One wonders how much VD shortened expected life spans? |
