We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Progressive pol’s unpleasant surprise: Handcuffing the cops means trouble
Yuh-Line Niou, who represents lower Manhattan in the state Assembly, had an unpleasant experience getting off the subway at Bowling Green the other day.
“I was just threatened,” she wrote on Twitter Tuesday morning, “by several of the ‘Statue of Liberty ferry’ ticket sellers who were blocking entry and exit from the train.” These hawkers are notorious for preying on tourists around the Battery, even going so far as to “sell” tickets to the Staten Island Ferry, which is free to ride.
Assemblywoman Niou reported her harassment to nearby NYPD officers, who “did nothing even when they were watching,” she complained on Twitter. “I went over to tell them, and they said that the city is choosing to doing [sic] nothing. They literally said, ‘Nobody cares. The city doesn’t care.’” Shocked by this disregard for maintaining public order, Niou identified herself as an elected official, but this, too, made no difference. “They said that the city doesn’t care. @NYCMayor told them not to do anything.”
Niou thus faced what many New Yorkers increasingly encounter on the streets and subways of our city — creeping disorder, antisocial behavior and a prevailing sense that “the city doesn’t care.” She was verbally assaulted — in vulgar terms — by scammers blocking pedestrian traffic, and the police stood and shrugged. We can only feel pity and anger for her plight.
Except Yuh-Line Niou has — ironically or not — campaigned, supported, and voted for all the policies that have led us to the point where aggressive, ugly and even criminal behavior is tolerated in the name of social justice.
Would this be a 'woke moment' or not??
Nope, they're not intelligent enough to realise it's their very own ideology that causes the chaos they encounter.
They're convinced it's caused by their policies not being 'properly implemented by saboteurs'.
This went on in the USSR, and it goes on to this day in every socialist/communist utopia.
Trigger warnings can be dangerous...
I can well believe that. The human ability to adjust to difficulty and oppression is remarkable, so long as we think that it is normal, or at least expected. Highlighting something in orange and saying "this might (should) make you upset" is a way of activating systems for psychological self-defense.
When younger (way back in the 70s) I sort of saw myself as a victim. I came to realize that after a certain point only I could be blamed for my fortunes, so I just stopped thinking about my disadvantages and prior bad treatment. Things really turned around from that point.
...and you know somethings happening...but you don't know what it is.
the media has no clue how much us deplorables despise them.
"A 70-year-old runner who was disqualified from the Los Angeles Marathon last week and was found dead in the Los Angeles River on July 4 committed suicide, authorities said Monday.
Retired Dr. Frank Meza, 70, of South Pasadena, died from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries in a suicide, the coroner’s office concluded following an autopsy." How does one kill one's self with "multiple blunt force injuries"?
"AOC’s chief of staff: We don’t think of the Green New Deal as a climate thing but as a “change the entire economy” thing." We KNOW that. Dems want to torpedo the US economy.
"Something’s happening here: Trump reaches all-time high approval in WaPo-ABC News polls." Be AFRAID, Dems! Be VERY AFRAID!!11111!!!!!!!
How does one kill one's self with "multiple blunt force injuries"?
Considering that most of the time the LA River is a gigantic concrete channel with a trickle running through the middle; my guess is he jumped from a bridge.
I ain't never seen no "global society"
I think we are gonna see one. I'm not sure if the Democrats have exacerbated the immigration problem because of Trump derangement syndrome or a hatred of middle America or exactly what, but I think this is going to get far worse and we are going to get a global society good and hard.
A Tale Of Two Cities:
One has the 2nd amendment and the other is rabidly anti-gun
Remember this when you vote for politicians who want to take away your 2nd amendment rights AND want open borders.
Whew. Trigger Warnings. The whole victim mentality is a social disease that spreads by contact with social media.
Here's a great song (victim/volunteer) by, strangely enough, a prog of the first order: Christine Lavin. She'd never write this song now... (BTW: I can listen to a lot of her music, I just can't listen to her braying between songs in live concerts.). Remarkably good musician, very sweet voice. Great song...
Lyrics here (worth a look as her sweet voice can distort on that youtube video)
As I said, great song. Prescient, even if she didn't mean it to be.
A few years ago I was sitting outside at a restaurant on 5th Ave in Brooklyn when a woman on a bicycle ran a red light. She was stopped by two of Brooklyn's finest and given a ticket. She was not amused. Wonder if that would happen today.
Better than being stopped by a car. I witnessed an accident where a car made a right hand turn into a business parking lot. The bicycle clearly could see that the car was going to do that but he was in the bike lane on the right and I could also see he intended to claim his right of way. He did a beautiful summersault over the hood of the car and seem to have broken his finger or hand. He was not happy so the driver remained in the car until the police came. There is something stupid about insisting on your right of way and getting hit by a car for it.
Trump and the polls. There was a large libertarian vote in 2016, and I think most of those will vote Trump this time, despite significant disagreement on some issues. He has gotten more things right compared to other Republicans by their measures. For myself, my worry was that his thin-skinned nature would lead him to getting us involved with pointless military responses. The opposite has turned out to be true. People notice. He will lose some of his previous voters, not because they will vote for a Democrat, but because they just won't turn out because he has not been as good as they expected on illegal immigration. On balance, I think he will have more votes than last time.
However, I have a very poor record on predictions.
So I offer a conspiracy theory; I was somewhat surprised at the reaction to the 737 max accident. After more consideration I now think there was an effort to harm Boeing probably backed by a unfriendly foreign country. I came to this conclusion after seeing considerable negative stories about the F-35. The stories seemed to center on the costs and development problems. But in general the stories all seem to demand that the U.S. abandon the F-35 which is made by Lockheed Martin. Then it occurred to me that these were America's largest (only) aircraft companies and if either of these airplanes were scrapped it would devastate the companies. That would be quite a coup for Russia and China. Destroy our aircraft industry with a meme and a few well placed articles.
So that is my conspiracy theory. Russian/Chinese meddling and the colluders are the people in the MSM who are pushing the meme.
