Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

For those who find Scott Adams boring lately

He is most valuable to me for finding phrases to express some of my thoughts for which I have no easy expression.


He is a great talker. Try this podcast. Yes, it's a hip thing to dislike America, so join the in-crowd moving to Canada...and China, and Mexico.

I really liked Dilbert, which took me less than a minute to read and was a great platform for his creative, ironical imagination. But Adam's podcast is typically 5 minutes of really great ideas painfully metered out over 50 minutes of podcast. And unfortunately, this sort of thing conforms to a kind of Boyle's Law corollary of intellectual engagement. 5 minutes of hot, interesting genius into 50 minutes of podcast leaves me cold to occasionally lukewarm on the intellectual stimulation scale.

Not 'lately', always. He said some interesting things but he says them in slow motion. Got no time for it. He should write a column

I generally agree with the above, however, keep in mind that he does these every day, unscripted, and brings fresh perspective. And, he predicts the future.

In general I wish there were more podcasts 10-25 minutes in length. I’d be all over those. City Journal has a good one that is rarely more than 20 minutes and always has interesting guests.

Sometimes Adams has insights, but they're often not worth the time. His speaking style is what you'd expect of someone on marijuana (not only slow but lots of um, uh, and repetition).

Agree with Jeff on the length issue, too. When the length increased, the amount of content did not (in my opinion). Tim Pool also has this problem.

It would be nice to have a podcast player that I can set to increase playback speed. At "78" I would expect him to sound much better.
