Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Kaepernick was always anti-American. His girlfriend is an anti-American activist. Bending a knee during the national anthem is a symptom of an anti-American.

I love hearing the anthem. I love saying the pledge of allegiance. I love seeing the American flag or many American flags. There is something wrong with those who hold the opposite view of those things.

I thought Bill Gaines was short of his A game by the mid-'70s, but he was still really good even at that point. MAD lost its genius when they lost him.

One part of the problem is that there is very little satire being done these days, and a lot of that isn't done all that well. The other part of the problem is that the audience for good satire tends to be diminishing at the same time, and most of the remaining audience has an increasing amount of snow on the roof. I s'pose I saw this coming when the classic Looney Tunes got replaced by the Surfside. I guess I just hoped it would take longer than it did.

The Trump administration put on a great celebration in D.C. yesterday: an old-fashioned parade with marching bands, gymnasts, floats, clowns and little kids representing the locals plus a magnificent review of our history by President Trump that applauded American heroes who have sacrificed for their fellow man in often-forgotten ways. Recognizing those who could attend in front of the thousands watching was a time they well deserved and will never forget. We should not forget.

All branches of our military were applauded for their sacrifices. The fly-overs were visually astounding and perfectly timed. Contrary to the media and twitter drama queens, nothing about this presentation was threatening to any other nation, but a reminder that historically we do rise up to protect our own against tyranny. The day made one proud to be an American.

I remember NAMBLA as far back as the late 70's. Their belief is that it is just a matter of time. There have been pushes in the Netherlands to reduce the age of consent to 12, which have, happily, failed to this point.

In 1953, at Eisenhower's inauguration, he has the "Atomic Annie" nuclear-capable field artillery piece rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue.

His point to Communist China that were fighting in Korea at the time was that a 20 kT shell would stymie any human wave attack the Chinese might make against UN forces.

He later sent film of the Nevada test to the Commies just to prove his point. They came to the negotiating table within two weeks.
