Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"Online Knitting Community Bans Trump Supporters, Accuses Them Of Backing 'White Supremacy'" Why is it that all the leftist groups can exclude conservative thought and actions, but conservative businesses and sites cannot exclude those that do not follow conservative thoughts and actions?
I'm sorry, this comment violates community standards barring hate speech, you filthy bigot.
I won't rest until I finish knitting my Pink Pussy Hat with "MAGA" right across the front of it in big red letters, and "2020" across the back.
Because the expectation of moral consistency is a manifestation of the cis-gendered, hetero-normative, racist patriarchy.
If logic opposes social justice, logic must give way. Because, shut up, that's why! Their manifesto is a lie. They are purging conservative voices. They claim they are not encouraging attacks on conservatives, but that remains to be seen. So many folks are so happy they will have a safe space from icky Trump supporters. And Twitter is full of SJWs that don't know how to knit but want to join to support the ban.
Regulate all the tech companies as platforms. John Bolton has a huge and fatal flaw/fault. He says what he means and speaks the truth. A terrible thing for a politician, ask any Democrat (but don't expect an honest answer). Bolton understand the enormous threat that the Middle East players pose for the world. IMHO he is absolutely correct to believe that we would be better off to challenge and deal with Iran now rather than after they get nukes. Make no mistake if Iran gets within days to weeks of having viable nukes Israel will take them out and they must to survive. Bolton would like to diffuse this situation and save lives.
On the other hand no intelligent person "wants" to go to war so I fully understand Tucker's view. But I still think it is wishful thinking. Carlson has gone from being the bow-tied Happy Preppy to a more caustic and sarcastic commentator, one with a grudge. He's gotten better at setting up his guests to point out the absurdity of their views, but he used to do this in good humor, letting the guests own their folly. Now he's just getting mean; here he's taking pot shots at John Bolton when Bolton's not there to rebut them or defend himself from having words / feelings imputed with malice. Overthrowing the mullahs that imprisoned Americans as hostages until Ronald Reagan got them out? Sounds good to me. Sounds good to a lot of Iranians, too. Carlson should listen to his own tapes and try to regain some of his objectivity, before he make a complete ass of himself.
A couple of our food franchises up here in Canada have been pushing Beyond Meat burgers and such lately.
Funny thing though, these plant-based Ersatzburgers are actually between 70 to 90 cents more expensive than the real thing. This seems utterly counter-intuitive, like paying more for artificial vanilla than the real thing from Madagascar. Silly me. I'd forgotten for a moment that this product is actually aimed at a particular affluent, self-regarding, posturing demographic. "Study Shows 92% Of Left-Wing Activists Live With Their Parents, One In Three Is Unemployed"
Seems to confirm this from Thomas Sowell "Social justice is an actual impediment to acquiring human capital" Is Biden senile? Martin Luther King was shot by a democrat and Kennedy was shot by a Palestinian. What does that have to do with republicans?
I would suggest that both men were assassinated by the CIA, which has no soul and no party preference, but is merely a tool of the power elite.
RE: Honesty.
A group of us in my city made 200 letters with an innocuous comment and dropped them randomly throughout the city All of them were addressed to the same place with the addressee of half of them being the campaign headquarters of one of the candidates for Mayor and half for the other. One of the candidates got 23% returned and one got 62%. Care to guess which one got elected? We have done this three times now with the same result. I'd love to try that! It's not really productive, but it would be fun.
oolioo- I'll bite. I'd guess it was the 23% return side that won.
The Plaza sounds like it's been on a downhill slide since 1930. If Trump borrowed all the money than it is the lenders that are the fools, not him. re The Top Four Reasons California Is Unsustainable
No argument with the piece, but things seem to be going along fine from a day to day perspective. In a way, the fiscal doomsday predictions mirror the dire global warming forecasts. Disaster lies in the future but that future never arrives. Back in the day I thought we would never be able to survive the Reagan deficits, and yet, here we are 30 years later, rolling up trillion dollar deficits and things go on as before. Life is good. How long it can go on like this is anybody's guess, but for now things are just peachy. Bill Nye the Science Fraud: "You're destroying the planet, you SUV driving idiots! Grow the f@#$ up!!"
(hops on a private jet for Earth Day photo op) Honesty: Cut and paste from my comment at Grim's Hall:
An old Jackie Gleason/ Frank Fontaine routine: Joe the Bartender: So Craze - (Crazy Guggenheim, who seemed to be a classic fool - intellectually slow, but wise) if you found a million dollars, would you try and give it back? Crazy: That would depend on who lost it, Joe. If it was a rich person, I wouldn't worry about it much. But if it was a poor person, I would make sure they got it back. ***** Buried in the foolishness of the experts interpreting the results is this. Countries with higher rates of primary education were also more likely to see high rates of lost wallets being reported. "What this suggests is that what you learn in school is not just math and reading but also social skills, or just more generally how you treat each other," No, you idiot. Honest cultures are more likely to makes sure the kids get educated. This does not in any way show that kids learned this in school. They might have learned it at home. They might have had it at birth. It might be a result of more secure wealth. It might be more common in recently Christian countries. You can't figure out what is horse and what is cart, even though you do this for a living. |
