We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The Central Park Five scandal was worth tearing into, because we should never tolerate biased prosecutions that rush to judgment for headlines and political points. Whatever else was wrong with the botched prosecution, it kept a cold-blooded rapist and attempted murderer from being apprehended and imprisoned for this particular crime. But I can't find any way to look at the Central Park Five that makes me wish they hadn't been thrown into jail for the things they actually admitted doing. If there are sad victims here, they ain't it. The little turds needed to be off the streets, and fast.
The documentary you refer to was a blatant hoax full of lies.
Read the DA's comments on this:
Yes, we now know that the Central Park five were merely just beating people for racist reasons and robbing them in the process; something that now a days just doesn't seem that bad, right? But what you don't know and the documentary hid from you is the evidence against them was that they did indeed rob and beat the Central park jogger. They may have raped her, their own statements imply that they did. They may not have killed her, but they certainly tried to by beating her senseless. Look at the evidence not the documentary that was clearly biased and racists.
Were you replying to me or to the original post? It seems we agree: the prosecution rushed to judgment and missed one really bad guy whose guilt appeared only much later. But the maligned "Five" had admittedly been up to plenty that night, attacking other people and even apparently participating in the attack on the most highly publicized young woman who was beaten nearly to death.
Sloppy prosecution might have resulted in a serious miscarriage of justice and never should be tolerated. In this case, it more or less lucked out, and at worst missed one really bad guy while nabbing five pretty bad guys.
It sounds like Netflix got all the production tips and writers from Ken Burns and his revisited "Viet Nam" series carried by NPR. There is no longer any history...only Hollywood history that would be approved through the Zinn history archives.
it goes back to the first OJ Trial: "If you ignore all of the evidence against the defendant, the prosecution's whole case falls apart."
Just a damn shame the filmmaker left out these excerpts from the NYPD Interrogation video:
Antron McCray: “We charged her. We got her on the ground. Everybody started hitting her and stuff. She was on the ground. Everybody stomping and everything. Then we got, each — I grabbed one arm, some other kid grabbed one arm, and we grabbed her legs and stuff. Then we all took turns getting on her, getting on top of her.”
Kevin Richardson: “Raymond [Santana] had her arms, and Steve [Lopez, who accepted a plea bargain rather than face trial] had her legs. He spread it out. And Antron [McCray] got on top, took her panties off.”
Raymond Santana: “He was smacking her. He was saying, ‘Shut up, bitch!’ Just smacking her…. I was grabbing the lady’s tits.”
Kharey Wise: “This was my first rape.”
When investigators at one point asked the fifth suspect, Yusef Salaam, why he had tried to smash the victim's skull, he replied, “It was fun.”
African Migrants Flood The Texas Border:
Have you begun to believe that this is all coordinated and in fact it is an invasion? It is well known that Soros is funding some of the invasion but what are the odds that China or Russia are involved as well? Cuba, with a long association with Russia being their surrogate, has become more active lately in Central and South America.
Notice also that Mexico took action against a couple dozen activists and organizations that are involved in pushing the immigration/invasion but for some reason they don't want to tell us who they are. What are they hiding.
I believe it. Definitely a coordinated effort. But, I also want all my change, and won’t hesitate to pick up a penny off the street. And I don’t believe in man made climate change. I believe that Jesus is the son of God; he died on the cross to save mankind. I believe in all kinds of crazy things.
Why aren't we quarantining them for 21 days? Do we know that Africans crossing our border do not have ebola or other exotic diseases? We already know that many of these illegal border crossers from Central America have serious communicable diseases. Why aren't we demanding a quarantine period???
The Sharansky's, and Jews telling their children: The phrase "Never Again" was rapidly co-opted by liberals, socialists, and communists to mean something slightly different and more to their liking. It quickly stopped meaning "Never again will we allow genocide" to "Never again will support anything we can call right-wing." And so tradition is preserved, but emptied of its meaning.

Just heard that Sarah Sanders Huckabee is stepping down as WH press secretary (announced today June 13). There is something worrisome going on down there. A former Republican state legislator from ARK was shot and killed more than a week ago, but it does not appear that the media picked up the story for at least several days. Two days later a Republican state legislator from OK (less than 500 miles away) was shot and killed--there appears to have been a delay in reporting that event also. No suspects have been reported. A local judge in ARK ordered that no information about the police investigation could be reported to the public -- that was in Arkansas. That does not mean that the story could not be reported as an ongoing investigation. I am curious as to why the delay in reporting each of these stories and what does this have to do with Sara stepping down today? I hate co-incidences!
Sarah Sanders is smart, capable and understands Washington. I think after Trump's second term she should run for president. She is head and shoulders above the two dozen Democrat candidates.
