We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
She looked quite hale in that picture with her 104th birthday cake. I'm glad for his and her sake she went quickly after a long, full life, not that his loss is any less.
Moms and dads and grandparents and all those others you honor and respect never die. They just move to another home in your heart and brain which can be resurrected when happy, sad, needy, and just requiring a quick slap to bring you back to reality.
I do it often. One is always fortunate to have such remarkable people to travel with us along our journey.
Our sincere condolences. No matter how old Mum is, her passing comes always too early. As an accompaniment to the reading, I offer this hymn which we sang at Mum's funeral.
Gerard did a wonderful job using his tremendous gift for writing to bring her to life on his site for those of us who never knew her. That's a real gift to others and to his mom too, and he made the world a slightly better place each time he wrote about her.
Remarkable really, think about it, how many blog posts have you read over the years, and of that number, how many brought to life, right befoe your eyes, over and over again, a person you never met? I can think of no other examples.
