Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I find her statement ironic. I think Ginsberg was too emotional. By her own words then, giving up a child for adoption could then be argued as complete termination of parental rights. Same with any kind of "abandonment". At least if a ruling went her way, I would think a good lawyer would take a run at it. Has she at all thought through the implications of that potential for interpretation? Also, the law should not flip based on how someone feels moment to moment. I want the kid I don't want the kid. But hey, maybe we can come up with some magic words people can say 3 times so we really know they mean it.
So NK continues in the practice of killing officials for failure...
Well, the perks for the job are good but the retirement plan sucks. Anyone who has raised children knows that the correct time to abort/kill them is when they become teens. Babies, toddlers and pre-teen children are a pure joy. Teens, not so much. But of course I joke to make a point; abortion is killing a baby. Abortion in the first few weeks is "perhaps" something a majority of people could accept but abortion in the 3rd trimester or post birth simply isn't acceptable to most Americans. This is where I find myself doubting the honesty and sincerity of those who are fighting for abortion up to and after birth. If they had never tried to push late term and partial birth abortions then this would never have been an issue and a majority of Americans would still be in favor of allowing abortions early in the pregnancy. So what was their goal? I think this is really about politics and simply a venue to push a far left agenda.
Common Core was absolute trash. Anyone associated with it should be precluded from ever working in education, or the education industry, ever again. But instead, the guy responsible, David Coleman, for CC got elevated to try and destroy college admissions by being hired as president of the College Board (the SAT folks).
My kids were in grade and middle school when CC hit, and if you think all the bitching about it is overblown, trust me , it's not. It really was that bad. “The world faces many tragedies. The lack of a Palestinian state ranks low on the list.” Exactly. Clear, succinct, accurate.
They COULD have had one, but NOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!
All or Nothing, and they chose Nothing. As the saying goes, they've never missed a chance to miss a chance. Most of the Arab "Palestinians" immigrated to that area from Jorden in the very early 1900's. There were itinerate family and tribal groups there before that time who were Arabs but not Muslims. And of course there were Jews still living in their traditional homeland. If you were able to do DNA testing of the Arabs/Palestinians you would discover that almost all of them trace their roots back to Jorden and still have family there as well. The "right" thing to do is for the Palestinians to re-immigrate to Jorden (as a choice not a mandate) where they have family and religious and political peers. The ONLY reason they are still in Gaza and a few other locations is to incite a continuing and intentional hate against the Jews. They have repeatedly been offered opportunities to make their life better which are turned down flat by their leadership (and any "Palestinians" who object are mistreated or worse by the leadership). The whole point of the Palestinians is as a focal point of hate and activism against Israel. The don't want to better their lives or their children's lives they want to spew hate... period. Until that day when they decide that they love their own children more than they hate the Jews their "suffering" will continue.
Interesting to see Gates laugh at solar, etc. Obviously he does not pay attention to what his company is doing --https://www.npr.org/2019/03/25/706546214/a-battle-is-raging-over-the-largest-solar-farm-east-of-the-rockies
Solar is "sold" as harvesting energy from the sun. But it is actually harvesting subsidies from the government. When a solar farm is built two corporations (sometimes three counting the contractors) make big bucks. The company selling the solar panels and equipment. They get paid full price and get a nice profit. And the company building the solar generation facility. They get a huge subsidy from the government and a long term contract from the electric utility. The electric utility is forced by law to buy the higher cost electricity from the solar farm. It can cost as much as $0.60 a kWh. Typical cost to the utility from hydro is as much as $0.06 a kWh and as little as $0.02 per kWh. Electricity from an older established coal fired plant is about the same as hydro and from natural gas fired plants about twice what hydro and coal costs are. The electric utility takes the unreliable and very expensive electricity from the solar farm and combines it with electric power from other sources and charges the customer $0.18-0.25 a kwh without regard to where their power comes from.
Years ago in most parts of the U.S. your electric bill simply had a flat rate charge for the electric usage based on a flat kWh rate. If you weren't home and only left a light on your bill might be $2.00. This is no longer true. If you look at your bill you will see a usage charge that might be $0.18 per kWh and a systems charge that "supposedly" pays for the power lines and other facilities and a city charge, a county charge and a state charge. There may be other charges too. So today if you go on a vacation and leave a small light on your utility bill will be $5 for the kWh charge and $87.50 for all the other charges. Why is this? Not one simple reason but one of the factors is that YOU must pay for solar and wind energy and it isn't cheap or practical. If they simply charged you for it, i.e. put a $50 charge on your monthly bill labeled "renewables" you would question it and after looking into it you would rightfully be opposed to "renewables" and then the owners of solar companies would never become billionaires. So the government does a little bait and switch with you so that you think you are paying legitimate charges and the true cost of solar and wind are buried so deep most people will never know. Because if you knew you would question the honesty and intelligence of the politicians and activists and we can't have that now, can we??? Re: Mueller - I still kick myself for not seeing it coming. We worried whether Mueller was out to get Trump, please Democrats, planned to play it straight, protect Obama, play to the media, etc.
His goal was simpler than that: to protect the CIA, the agency that had given him a career, a purpose, and power. Democrats, Republicans, Trump, Obama - all would be irrelevant to that main goal. Except that now that Trump, Barr, and other officials are dangerous to the CIA, they must be discredited. All the actions that looked puzzling and ambiguous during the investigation, unclear whether they were good or bad for Trump and his associates, suddenly become clear when you see this. As the party that is more closely tied to the Administrative State (which some call the Deep State) is the Democrats, they would tend to benefit more from Mueller's protection of a major agency. But to him that was byproduct. What’s Behind the Push for Open Borders? Democrats.

And that is why government paid/provided healthcare will always have runaway costs. Either that or someone's heart bypass will be postponed to free up funds for the politically necessary procedures. The downside of conducting experiments on children is that when they fail, they negatively impact that child's life compared to what it would have been without the non-consensual experimentation. Didn't look at the D-day footage but am wondering if any mention of the Canadian contribution? In "The Longest Day", the only mention was a brief comment to the effect of "the Canadians have taken Juno Beach". Truth was, the Canadians were the first to re-take the territory (there is a building, now called Canada House, still standing and which was the first place they liberated. The Canadians pushed further inland than was expected.
Granted, Omaha Beach was a tough nut to crack; however, it could be argued that the fierce push by the Canadians and Brits to the east gave added pressure on the Germans which contributed to the successful landing further west. As a further reminder, let's remember Pegasus Bridge and Piper Bill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDEO0OIBD8U |
