We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I know they're just screaming impeachment to fundraise off of, but I really wish they'd sh*t or get off of the pot with it. Although, it does keep reminding America how unserious they are as a party and as leaders. So, we've got that going for us.
Either I'm missing something, or this is one of the most obfuscated and puzzling moments in American politics. It's like having your kids jumping up and down, screaming "Let's go on a trip! Let's go on a trip!" and when you ask them, "Where?" you get immediate silence and blank looks.
What specific crimes are we supposed to be impeaching Trump for, exactly ? What high crimes and misdemeanors has Trump been credibly accused of, worthy of impeachment? I mean, besides being abrasive, insulting, unkind to his antagonists, and largely successful as POTUS? I am truly at a loss to understand why they think this would end up as a winning hand: Partisan impeachment in the House and a dead stop in the Senate. Do they really think voters would look at this as exemplary leadership and governance?
Well, yes, it is all about the Benjamins.
But what is most alarming is the reckless and myopic pursuit of bad precedents. This has been going on for awhile, but the anti- Trump mob has taken it to an almost Himalayan level of stupidity. It is deranged to scuttle hundreds of years of established jurisprudence in the frenzy to get Trump (and Kavanaugh), such as attorney/client privilege, presumption of innocence, the right to confront the accuser, release of grand jury testimony, the right to be informed of exculpatory evidence, the right to a defense, ... among others. Selective prosecution, media leaks, and the entrapment of bystanders in process crimes to get them to perjure themselves is especially sneaky and weaselly. Unintended consequences much? I don't have to tell you, do I, that they would do the same to any one of us. If this prevails, it means the social contract has been destroyed.
Lest we forget, the Mueller team, riddled with conflicts of interest, realized that the collusion malarkey was a non starter by summer of 2017. They spent the last 18 months hoping to induce or provoke the administration into committing the crime of obstruction which failed to pan out. They were left with trying to twist the obstruction statute into a pretzel by way of a novel and tortured legal theory of obstruction, which was to be pursued
selectively and retroactively to get Trump.
There is only one thing good that could come out of this. A full investigation into the Obama administration (including Hillary) and a prosecution of anyone who committed real crimes. If Trump and the Republicans don't make that happen then this will be the new norm for the Democrats. But if we get perp walks and prison time this shit will end.
