We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
That was really excellent! Coming of age in the turbulent sixties, I guess I rebelled against the predominant culture along with most people my age. It was easy to be cynical when many of us were being drafted to fight in a foreign war that we didn't understand. A few decades later, I began to realize the importance of culture (concensus) in binding a society together and how dangerous it was to attack the prevailing traditions. Not long ago a friend sent me a book entitled "Visions of Order" by Richard M. Weaver. It explained (in eight chapters) that "The law of nations is in reality the law of cultures". Chaos is the inevitable result when the natural order of things is abandoned. These days, the left uses chaos to attempt to destroy the American culture. Someone should ask them as Thomas More asked Roper in A Man for All Seasons "d'you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then?" If we allow the left to to succeed in cutting down our laws, death and destruction will surely follow. The left may yearn for that that but the rest of us don't.
