Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re the Australian cartoonist: It is common for liberals to claim to be the thinking people, but I have yet to see convincing evidence of this. What I do see is a heightened social awareness, a strong sense of what the right people are supposed to believe, even as that changes with the fashions. That is an intelligence of a sort, I suppose, but strikes me as more of an automatic adaptation to stay in a group's good graces. It requires signaling, but how hard is it to roll your eyes and speak with disdain, really?
The very idea that the left think things through is born out in the many disasters that are left in the wake of their policies. The many times they insist on trying the same things that have always been failures, and left millions dead, or starving and destitute needs to end. What the Left has in abundance is hubris. I for one have had my fill of their politics, and their condensing attitude towards me and my country. I’ve had my fill of their politically correct shackles and the insistence that I worship their gods: government and the environment. It is way past time that we tell them to stick their tired worn out, old as the history of man, ideas, where the sun does not shine. We should laugh and mock their crazy ideas. And it well past time that we get them as far away as possible form our institutions of learning.
And it well past time that we get them as far away as possible form our institutions of learning. Good luck with that. About like setting out to drive roaches to extinction.
Transgender orthodoxy "benefits" so few people and harms so many I simply don't understand why it is supported by so many. It defies logic and biology but I'm not sure most college graduates take those courses anymore. It brings a new level of "stupid" to the game.
Gay people often feel an emotional need to support transgenders because they believe they have been victims of prejudice from the same people. The fact that key intellectual supports for each cause are in stark contradiction with each other matters less than the feeling of being on the right side, against the correct enemies.
By extension, many straight, cis people similarly support the cause despite the intellectual contradictions. It pisses off the correct people, and that is enough. This has proved to be a remarkably stable way to operate over the last fifty years in America. "being against the correct enemies" is at the heart of the rebellious spirit of liberals/leftists. They have not outgrown the juvenile attitude and act of leaving the nest. That attitude is resistance, rebellion, pushing back against parental authority and order. Now extended to all authority and order. Rebellion without responsibility.
"...they believe they have been victims of prejudice"
This is the entire purpose of identity politics. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy. It does not matter if you are a racial minority, a female who wants to be "something else", gay, left handed, etc. Once you identify as outside the norm everything that does not go your way or even benefit you enormously is defacto discrimination. This is why when I as a white male encounter discrimination I ignore it and find a way to reach my goal but when a black person or a gay or feminist perceives discrimination it becomes a federal offense i.e. a hate crime. The aggrieved groups/individuals revel in their perceived discrimination or social shunning and if they cannot find/perceive it they will eagerly make it happen or make it up. It is what they live for and also why they fail in life. What makes you think it's supported by so many? I would posit that it is supported by a vocal ultra-minority who are graced with special access to the media, who then take pains to present it as majority opinion.
Imagine what the coverage would look like if the media didn't sympathize and promote young ultra-progressive SJW amateurs. As it is, one never sees images of them congregating by the hundreds, and the early post-Trump pink-hat sore-loser marchers have quickly lost their sizzle (and I would guess, their numbers). I guess we will get a more accurate picture as the next election approaches...... That the USPS is in trouble is not a surprise to me.
I have seen the quality of its service decline precipitously over the past couple of years. This past summer/fall there were times when we didn't get our mail for days and then our mailbox would be stuffed, sometimes with a notice that they couldn't fit it all in our mailbox and would have to go to the local post office to pick it up. Other times the mail carrier wouldn't deliver it until 7 or 8PM. The previous winter the mail carrier wouldn't deliver because our mailbox was supposedly unreachable due to the snow banks. This after having cleared our driveway and removed the snowbank anywhere near our mailbox. After subsequent snowfalls I went so far as to take a picture of our mailbox after it had been cleared, then again after the mail carrier dropped the notice in our mailbox just a few hours later. I showed the postmaster the photos and asked him if there was any reason the mail carrier shouldn't have delivered our mail. He admitted that there shouldn't have been any reason why the carrier didn't deliver the mail. Maybe it's time to privatize mail delivery. Somewhat surprising to me. Here, Amazon has obviously deputized USPS to special delivery its stuff, adding it to the ranks of Fedex and UPS. Now we have USPS trucks driving around all the time, even on Sundays and at night. Would have thought that would give USPS a major shot in the arm.
It's obvious what the Post Office will do: Blackmail everyone. Obviously, they could raise prices and cut pensions right now. But they won't. Instead they will create an "emergency" that can only be solved with billions in more tax money. What's disheartening is that the Federal Government is complicit in this scam. What a bunch of crooks.
They need to fire just about every 4 out of 5 people.
There are more managers than "workers". And with every government entity, there are 4 standing around collecting a paycheck while one does the work. but once hired, gvt workers are never fired. Here's the major problem with the USPS:

NYC schools chief accused of creating environment ‘hostile’ to white people: Is anyone surprised? It should happen to the schools chief, too. That new history by Wilfred McClay looks promising. He seems to have his head screwed on straight. Well, almost, but close enough.
Still I suspect that "Zinn history" will have to be pried out of the educators cold, dead hands.
“It seems unfair that the morons outnumber the thinking people at election time.” Yes, but the morons will vote anyway, always hoping that some politician and some government program will solve their problems for them. And until we have a "None Of The Above" option, thinking people will still not vote, knowing that every election is simply cancer vs. leprosy.
I still have gender confusion. Here is the APA definition of gender. Can someone explain it to me?
Gender (n): the condition of being male, female, or neuter. In a human context, the distinction between gender and SEX reflects the usage of these terms: Sex usually refers to the biological aspects of maleness or femaleness, whereas gender implies the psychological, behavioral, social, and cultural aspects of being male or female (i.e., masculinity or femininity.) Up until recently, gender was learned in foreign language classes where nouns had genders and all the adjectives and verbs had to match. Another hoop of misinformation to jump through. I want my world back!
Learning about Cotton in School Is Racist Now
"Judgments are prepared for scoffers, And beatings for the backs of fools" Cotton is racist now, huh. Picking over 150 lbs a day made a racist in my teens? Oh God, I forgot. Everything is racist. But only if you are particular pale color.
I don't understand why the news media is always right.
They told me that if I voted for Goldwater there would be riots, war and high gas prices. Well, I voted for Goldwater and, sure enough... re Financial Collapse Of The United States Postal Service Is Coming
True enough, but when push comes to shove, my thinking is that Uncle Sam will print all the money needed to keep the Post Office afloat. I don't think any Rep or Senator wants to face the voters over a collapsed Post Office. |
