We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
It's true that 'fat is a feminist issue'...but that doesn't mean it's okay to be obese! Not sure how things got so messed up on this issue.
There's a huge middle ground between 'you need a BMI of less than 20 in order to be considered attractive' and 'it's time for the bariatric surgery'. If getting on a scale is triggering for someone then maybe they shouldn't get on a scale? Just a thought.
Times have changed. I'm in my late forties and when my friends and I go out together, we as a group overall are notably thinner than similar groups of females in their 20's. Everyone's so chubby nowadays. It's weird.
While watching a video of a discussion between Roxane Gay and Christina Hoff Sommers (thisis42 dot com), I was blown away at the size difference between the two women. I ended up watching the entire 2 hour video because I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It made me wonder if we are creating a herbivore branch of humans.
