Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Monday, May 13. 2019A goblin affecting Maggie's FarmSomething strange has been going on with Maggie's for the past ten days or so. Mainly redirections or failure notices. We are trying to figure it out. It might help if people give us more details on their problems getting on to Maggie's.
Update: Thanks for comments. I think we fixed it. Did we? Trackbacks

Today, I get the same redirect I reported yesterday when coming to the front page.
Yesterday, I also got the redirect when clicking on the link to an individual post. But today I can click on the individual posts and NO redirect. I am using Firefox What redirect?

It WAS a redirect to: http://spread [dot] ly/?redir=frame&uid=spread5cd717e8ad7656.25120762
(remove [dot] to see the page) It was still redirecting an hour ago, but NOW (12:40 PM CDT) , it no longer redirects. Appears to be fixed :-) same thing ... last three days

About the goblin: Running Windows 7 and Firefox latest build, your site would come up but after a second or two would be replaced by "Spread.Ly," which was a site up for sale by Unregistry Marker.
Today I cleaned my Firefox database before doing anything else. On accessing Maggie, the problem has not recurred. All is well.

"when i used an i-mac router"
should read as "when i used an i-mac on the same router"

Had the same problem, thought it might be an unwanted Firefox barnacle. Blocked the URL. BUT--the Maggie's page kept showing little gray password boxes at the end of each article.
Saw the same problem this morning on my office PC. After I quit goofing off and got some work done, I went back and Voila! No redirect. Someone seems to have exorcised the redirect. Yesterday I was redirected to the Mongo video - by itself on a grey background. Cleared cache and got back in but it showed a video chopped off at the top by the story separate line. All looks goof today.

I am re-directed to Spread.ly every time I log on -- and told I might be able to buy your "premium domain name". Using Firefox browser on a Windows 10 computer.

Ditto, Firefox on Windows 10. But OK now, on the Enterprise version we have at work.
Me too. W10 & latest FireFox. I close the tab and reopen the page. Problem disappears every time.

The Farm redirected to a Domain Name for Sale page first then a 409 page not found for about 2 days. Using Firefox. Clicking Maggie's Farm in Most Visited menu worked fine though. All is fine today.

Page being hi-jacked by spread.ly
http://spread.ly/?redir=frame&uid=spread5cd98899cc4068.86474755 Once that happens, can't even get to MF. Obviously not happening at this time. Using Windows 7 and Firefox. Started for me last night.

So glad this is fixed! Mine (same problem) started about 5/10. I researched over weekend and tried several things; meanwhile could not access MF. Using Win 10; same problem on Edge. Yesterday I uninstalled Firefox (which they seem to have "installed"/updated on 5/9, per my Programs list). Got a box asking "please tell us why you uninstalled", so I explained this problem and begged them to fix it. Then reinstalled. Don't know who fixed it; just happy someone did. (It is now ~1:45 pm CST where I am.)

I am using a PC with Firefox and have been re-directed for several days. I scanned my hardrive with SuperAntiSpyWare and problem
has been resolved. I had a number of critical issues that required an anti-spyware solution.

Identical to feeblemind (hence the cut and paste):

Had same problem over last 2 days or so. Not today. Redirect to spread.ly. Once problem started (almost immediately upon entering MF home page), problem persisted without any way to see MF content due to repeated redirects. Running Windows 7 with Firefox.

Hey! You're back! For several days I had to use the anonymous view coming off of Startpage which didn't allow commenting but I could at least read the scintillating conversations going on. I'm running Windows 7 on my laptop and the spread.ly re-direct (buy this domain name now from Uniregistry! Like I'm going to buy anything from a browser hijacker.) happened on both IE and Firefox. Using my nephew's computer which has Windows 10 running Chrome, no re-direct on Chrome but spread.ly redirect on IE. (Google is of course too evil for me to allow them to install Chrome on my computer so their re-direct blocker is not going to close the sale for me.)

I also was highjacked to spread.ly for two days, but only when using safari on an iMac. When I used my iPhone on the same router, there was no problem. All is ok right now.

For three days, every time I would connect with theblog, would get a pop-up from "Spread.ly" followed by another pop-up "429 denial of service". Nothing worked to close either or return back to the MF home page. Using a PC with firefox. ran a scan this am, and now have access, maybe coincidence.

ditto here over the last few days, even one direct the .ly site this morning.
I am on a Linux Mint 18.3 and Firefox but had largely parallel action on win 8.1 with Firefox Good luck; this sort of stuff is scarey. It seems to be ralated to seizures of my modem and/or router which I have re-booted recently several times because after "the attack" the internet connection seemed to go way slower.

I believe my issue was a Firefox add-on Ad Blocker for Youtube that updated 05/10/2019. Chrome worked fine. The Spread.ly redirect would load only after the YouTube vid under the "VFR Miami to Key West in a TBM" header fully loaded. I had run MalwareBytes a few times and it found some PUPS, but did not solve the issue. When I enabled the complemtary ads blocking method option in the FireFox extension, it seemed to solve the problem. FireFox had an issue with disabling add ons a week or so ago, and updated-I don't think all the add on folks have had a chance to work out all the resulting bugs

I had this problem with Commodo Ice Dragon and Pale Moon so I uninstalled them. I changed Firefox to Firefox ESR and added Ublock Origin and then blocked all spread ly redirects. (I may not have needed to switch to ESR.) Epic Browser continued to work but does not handle many tabs being open at once very well (shrinks them to unreadable size rather than allowing scrolling) WaterFox may be working.

I had the spread.ly shennanigans too for a night. It happened before to AWS servers, (Amazon Web Service), as you use, last in late April. Amazon of course denied everything, (cloud, what cloud?), but fixed very fast. Seems suspiciously similar. (So it should be ok now, until the next time.)
I have been redirected to spread.ly for about 2 weeks. I was able to stop it by blocking the spread.ly page. I am using Firefox.
