We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Thanks, RIck. Much better coverage of McHugh's stance than my post.
Internet access is feeding many youth with distorted self-images of their limited choices to happiness ever after. Then there's the "follow the money" aspect with gender clinics arising like dandelions, cautioning confused parents about elevated suicide rates that are shameless. "Craze" doesn't even begin to describe the problem.
Don't know if it was discussed in the article (because of the paywall), but there was an infamous case of "recovered memory" a few years ago in Napa Valley. A prominent winery executive was accused by his now adult daughter of him sexually abusing her when she was a young child. She had "recovered memories" of this happening as the result of going through therapy (I think for depression). The accused lost his job, his marriage, and his reputation, while vehemently denying anything had happened. Fortunately, he was able to find good attorneys who were able to demonstrate that the alleged sexual activity could not have occurred because the accused was on things like business trips when it supposedly happened, or the family lived in a different house at the time from that described by the daughter as being where the assaults took place. The whole thing was pretty horrific. I used to spend a fair amount of time in Napa Valley so I remember reading about this infamous case in "real time" in the local papers as it unfolded over the course of several years.
