The causes of homelessness are complex, but in my opinion, mental illness is not the main cause; nor is it opiods.

If you actually talk to homeless people, you will find that many of them have just given-up. They lost a job, lost an apartment, and then they were on the street. The point here being that most homeless don't even want a job anymore. They are fully cooked. And most of them have decided that they are going to hang around and have a good time, until they die. End of story.

That's why any talk of "rehabilitation" or "delivery of services" is so pointless. Aside from basic health care and food, the homeless don't want anything. They can't be forced to go to work, or to go to school. In fact, they are as free as the wind; and that's the way they like it.

But the number of homeless people is rapidly increasing, so something will have to be done. The only real solution is euthanasia. I would issue a warning thirty days ahead of time; so most people can leave. Then I would go in with cyanide gas; and clear entire city blocks. I suppose that many people won't like this idea, because it requires taking action which is not good for everyone. Instead, people will argue that we need more "rehabilitation" even though we already know that it doesn't work.

The real problem is not the homeless; it's the idealists and dreamers who keep suggesting the same pointless, non-workable solutions. They don't like words like "truth" and "discipline" and "responsibility."

Your sentiments are noble. I wish it were possible to reconnect all of the homeless people to a better life. But our primary responsibility is to future generations; we can't leave a giant mess behind for them to clean-up. We have to do it ourselves.
That means euthanizing the homeless, the retarded, and the elderly. And when we're done, there should only be fully-functioning people around. Not an army of cripples; and an army of caretakers, like we have now. I never want to see another electric wheelchair or nursing home.

What you have to bear in mind is that crippled people, the retarded, and the elderly impart a huge social cost onto the rest of society. Blacks also represent a huge social cost. Right now, we are burning through social capital like there is no tommorow. The kids are cynical, depressed, and covered with tattoos. Add to that the fact that the institution of marriage has collapsed, and you have a recipe for the complete breakdown of our social fabric. It's called anarchy. The elderly will try to solve this problem by creating a police state, with endless gated-communities, so they can go on with their merry lives; while the children starve. I'm sorry, but I can't go along with that plan.

You see, Blick, many old people, and some not so old people, feel that a new world order is at hand. Soon, medicine will allow men and women to live to the age of 150; or even 200.
And when there are so many old people on this crowded Earth, we won't need any more children. So who needs marriage? Through computers, we can create the illusion of a full life, so the kids will be happy after all, because they will be living their dreams. That is evil in its purest form, because its a denial of reality; and also a denial of social convention.
