Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The northern Indians made it and taught the colonists. After all, Indian Pudding is just molasses-flavored grits. They think Edelweiss is a Nazi song because it is used as the opening theme of the Amazon series The Man in the High Castle.
So in other words, they based their condemnation upon what they would normally call a cultural appropriation of a fake patriotic Austrian folk song, that was anti-Nazi to begin with, written by a couple of famous New York Musical Theater creators? Got it. Garsh, life has sure gotten complicated.
That was published during the "heyday of the Nazis" in 1959.
Can't keep track of the outrage without a scorecard...
And if the ink's dry on it, the thing's out of date. Don't leave out that Rodgers and Hammerstein were both Jewish to an extent, that is, Hammerstein was only Jewish from this father, his mother was Scottish.
Not just New York Musical Theater creators but Jewish (Rodgers) and half Jewish (Hammerstein) New York Musical Theater creators!
And the performer in the original Broadway production was the late, great Theodore Bikel, himself a refugee from Nazi Austria (the family fled to Mandatory Palestine following the Anschluss).
Both The Sound of Music and The Man in the High Castle are about people trying to escape from the Nazis, the Trapp family and Julia respectively.
So the Yankee’s and the Flyers have banned Kate Smiths God Bless America. Not sure when the Flyers first hired a black player, but the Yankee’s didn’t hire one until 1955! Shouldn’t they ban themselves?
The thing that I still don't understand is how all of the pundits seem to be working from the premise that there is this single, monolithic, almost monocrystalline entity called "Russia" that entirely reflects the will and mind of a single individual, and in no way contains any factionalism or internal dissent.
It seems to me that the actual situation is probably much more diffuse, with some internal factions pushing for Clinton, while others were pushing for Trump. "He's the kind of guy we can make a deal with" and "She's weak and can be pushed around" seem to both be possible motives for favoring one over the other even within the Russian foreign policy apparatus. Just look at the more or less public disputes between the Armed services in the US over strategic imperatives, or the different threat assessments reached by NSA, CIA and State Department, and you'll see the same kind of dynamic in operation. Gary Taube's new book: Why We Get Fat
Does eating too much have anything to do with it? Taubes' book was published in 2011, so it's 8 years new! Didn't read the Amazon blurb, didja! Bad nutritional advice: "...none more damaging or misguided than the “calories-in, calories-out” model of why we get fat..." Do we have to have a "conversation" about grits now? No thanks. I don't need any "artisanal grits," it's basically ground up corn! Posers who turn up their noses at grits lap up polenta like caviar and still don't understand that they are exactly the same thing. Please, go eat your much and polenta and leave grits alone.
I remember watching one of my mother's cooking shows when my dad walked into the room. They were doing langoustine on a bed of polenta or some such, when my father said "that's just boiled crayfish and cornmeal mush. It's not gourmet, it's what you eat on the farm when you end up with more month than money."
And like much such farm food, it's awfully good. I don't care if it's grits or polenta, it's tasty as all get-out.
Yeah, call those grits polenta and you can charge quadruple for them.
But Southern grits are hominy grits and more nutritious than just ground corn. The hominy is corn that has undergone nixtamalization just like is done to make masa. And I'll have to say, I have never seen yellow grits, but have seen yellow polenta and yellow corn Yankee cornbread. Full disclosure, what I grew up with as cornbread is actually corn pone. Just self-rising cornmeal (has a bit of flour also) buttermilk and hot oil. No sugar, no eggs or any other adulterations. I left out the hominy because it confuses people. Yellow grits are not widely available but we usually pick up 2 or 3 cotton bags full at the Piggly Wiggly south of Charleston when we come by that way on 17. I love them either color.
To keep your grits from setting up keep adding water and they will stay pourable. This is making my mouth water! Grits are what made southerners so smart! News stories about the Mueller report proving Hillary innocent of all wrong doing are a little confusing to me. Please explain what it is about the repot that exonerates Clinton?
Please explain to me when it was decided that "community activism" was a subject to be studied in the K-12 grades? I have it in writing from our local school board that that takes precedent over teaching students to write using cursive, as does of course a weekly discussion on transgender feelings beginning in 1st grade. WHO, bring them out and do a perp walk with these individuals!! The leaders of the NEA. The leaders of the AFL/Teachers Union.
Mueller was careful to say that, in addition to no one from the Trump campaign, 'no US persons' formed a criminal conspiracy with the Russians to influence the US election. This presumably includes the Hillary campaign, Fusion GPS, etc.

No surprise here. U.S. Intelligence Institutionally Politicized Toward Democrats https://freebeacon.com/national-security/u-s-intelligence-institutionally-politicized-toward-democrats/ A Priest Saved ‘The Body of Christ’ From Notre Dame, and NY Times Thought He Meant a Statue
https://freebeacon.com/blog/a-priest-saved-the-body-of-christ-from-notre-dame-and-ny-times-thought-he-meant-a-statue/?fbclid=IwAR3gTcdd3sSe1fgXV0aILXJGTG_k9psiEa5mjiXoaAAwn7U7LS3HZuaaGUQ I read a similar article a couple of days ago. There's no end to what the NYT will publish in the way of howlers about basic Christian doctrine. It's becoming commonplace for their reporters to mention casually something about where Christians believe "Jesus is buried," or as your article mentioned, expressing outrage that someone wants Jesus to rise from his resting place just to help some guy today (this time misunderstanding Ted Cruz's call to action on the part of the "Body of Christ," i.e., the whole membership of the Church. These people know nothing and care less: they'll publish anything that makes them feel comfortable about their own worldview.
I really liked the way Jews "shit and shiver," too. The other article I read had something about a bishop's "crow's ear," meaning a crosier. These aren't cute sayings from 9-year-olds in a mediocre public school. There is also this Tex99, the phenomenon of the "Easter Worshipper" because the don't dare utter the "C" word.
Shhh... Someone Did Something to 'Easter Worshippers' in Sri Lanka https://pjmedia.com/faith/shhh-someone-did-something-to-easter-worshippers-in-sri-lanka/ We should all count our blessings and give thanks that the NYT didn't write about the hero priest dragging out the actual, physical corpse of Christ to save the relic from the fire.
I started with tracking calories, which did work. I lost weight (about 12 or 15 pounds). But it would always creep back up if I didn't religiously count everything and track all things put into my mouth.
So, 18 months ago I cut out most carbs...like rice, potatoes, breads. I eat some, but typically the ones with the least carbs...the only sweet things I typically consume is dark chocolate or desserts with Splenda. And it worked like a charm. I also notice a big difference in energy levels and fullness when I 'cheat' on occasion (such as on vacation or at an event). I feel much hungrier much soon on higher carb eating. Add back in the protein, and I feel much better. Achievement Gap: Expect more of this. The real answers are intolerable, so false answers must be substituted, and decent people blamed and punished. Something similar happens with law enforcement.
The ones whose lives will get screwed up are the black and Latino students, but the activists will fell good about themselves, so it's all good. Frankly,, I am stunned at how quickly the level and quality of education has collapsed with no race, creed or color of skin being less affected by the LaLaLand of the Classroom, Hollywood and D.C. projected by the media, movies and music.
Sadly, this so-called political correctness is a charade, resulting in more hate and violence as "the adults in the room" find more and more ways of dividing people into teeny, tiny factions who can't stand each other. And they really don't know why except they are immersed in petty differences 24/7/365. QUOTE: Frankly,, I am stunned at how quickly the level and quality of education has collapsed... It’s almost like it was planned. It’s disgusting how these evil overlords indoctrinate the youth on sexual confusion in the first grade! It is much more important to them, that first graders grapple with the made up gender identities, safe sex practices, and how wonderful being gay is, before reading, writing and arithmetic is even mentioned. It is evil. |
