We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
When I was teaching grade school in the early 70s for the children's safety they removed the merry go round, the swings, slides and the geodesic climbing dome. What were the kids supposed to do for fun and exercise. Now they can't even chase each other around the play ground.
I should have said it showing sarcasm. The only injuries I can recall were a couple of broken wrists from the geodesic climbing dome. The way the kids landed when they dropped down from the top. In the area I taught I wouldn't be surprised if parents threatened to sue.
Let me see. 1958--10 years old--BB guns; pocket knives; homemade go carts, no brakes standard; bicycles, no helmets; swimming hole, no lifeguards; Dad's pickup, standing in the front seat no seatbelts or riding in the bed; and the list goes on. It's a wonder we survived.
I want to say this loudly because it is important. As above.
The children who were injured went away to special schools and you never saw them again. Those of us in mental health, neurology, developmental services, Section 8 housing, and assisted living continue to see them through the long hard decades of the rest of their lives. Do not rely on memory for your science.
