We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The J-3 used to rent for $6.50 an hour in Lake Placid NY (solo). The grass runway there then was bisected by a road to the garbage dump, and two stop look for aircraft signs warned drivers about crossinig. Anyway it was a nice way to while the day flying in the high peak region of the Adirondacks. 1959
The video goes the modern procedure-everything route - in real life you just did some stuff and got in and go.
The guy did the takeoff because modern pilots would ground-loop the airplane. Tailwheel planes are directionally unstable on the ground as the CG is aft of the landing gear. Easy to learn but you do have to learn it.
The Aeronca 7AC is a nicer plane of the same kind, because you fly it from the front seat and so see more.
