Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The story about Dr. Bouman being trolled: That's the left forever and always - the collective can be praised, never the individual.
They praised The Chosen One quite often from 2008 to 2016.
Obviously the government dumps the illegals somewhere why not in sanctuary cities? I hope they do it.
I want to be there when Cher finally realizes she's been talking like Trump. That's a whole 'nother level; that's not just living in someone's head rent free, that's living there and taking over the place.
As soon as I saw the first story about Dr Bouman I said it was another example of a woman being pushed to the front to support the narrative. The more I read the surer I've become. The media hasn't done her any favors.
Also, the Lufthansa flying videos you've been posting, the last with the blonde lady co-pilot are the same thing exactly. My wife pointed another one with her in it last night and then later in the evening I saw a third one with her. I'll bet there's more too. All those videos had different pilots. The Dr. Bauman issue: The American public is finally beginning to see the damage that has been done to our education system by feminizing our university system. This fact is being recognized in universities around the world.
Yesterday I was listening to NPR and they had a two hour long show about obesity. What it was though was two hours of fat ladies complaining that men didn't want to date them or have sex with them. Two hours of "why me" and "you suck". One formerly fat lady who lost over 100 lbs by taking speed even taped herself disparaging her husband of 10 days because he would have never married her when she was fat. She was relentless, no love just criticism of what she thought his motives might be. I assume he has seen the light and gotten out of there. But this seems to be the position of obese (mostly) women that it is all the men's fault because they are too shallow to see their inner beauty or something. I kept thinking that I could guarantee every fat woman a date and probably a marriage but of course the man would be obese, unkempt and ugly, but hey, these women aren't "shallow" are they???
Women who care only about pocketbooks are shallow. Men who care only about looks are shallow. Shallow relationships probably are going to be filled with rage and disappointment. How often do we have to go over this? It's never going to make ugliness attractive or poverty appealing. It's never going to make it easier to figure out whether physical unattractiveness or poverty results from an important character trait that someone might want to evaluate before entering into a vulnerable partnership. And it's never going to settle the question "which is shallower, an obsession with looks or hunger for meal ticket?"
I do not mean to be argumentative but. It is not shallow to be interested in looks. Agree or not that is exactly what our genes and our maker bred into us, It is how we choose a mate. Is it wrong or shallow? I suppose by someone's moral standard but somehow I suspect that those same people who believe that choose their mates based on attraction. I know, I know! You will say "but I meant choosing just on looks alone". I'm sorry, that's a fake position. First it doesn't matter a wit that someone considered looks more important than say intelligence or personality because everyone has their priorities. Choosing a mate based on personality would be equally shallow if you examined it honestly. Secondly, without exception in this world everyone who gets to choose a mate is first impressed by their looks and anyone who denies it is not being honest.
It's not shallow to care about looks, and it's not shallow to be interested in whether a man can buy food for a pregnant woman or a woman with young enough kids that it will be hard for her to work. What is shallow is to care for nothing at all but these two characteristics: the stereotypical man who engages in serial marriages as each wife loses her looks, or the stereotypical gold-digger woman who wants to squeeze every penny out of a hard-working high earner. Everyone who expects to build a stable and satisfying long-term intimate relationship will have to figure out how to balance these reasonable ambitions with the many other virtues a trustworthy partner must have.
Reading through the CNN linked article on the tax cuts, I discovered a lot of winning, and a couple of losers. Blue staters that rely on refunds and the US Treasury. The last couple of sentences are priceless:
QUOTE: With the national debt over $22 trillion, that means the US will ultimately have to make some hard choices. So enjoy that tax cut, everyone. Hard choices indeed. The Federal government has had a spending problem for years, they never want to make the hard choices, not enough opportunity for graft, as Glen Reynolds would say. As a self-employed e-filer, I didn’t enjoy any tax cut, but I am happy that the tax reform was passed, especially for those evil cooperations that provide so many valuable jobs. Cooperations that reflect the cost of doing business in their pricing, why is that so hard to understand? Our national debt is going to crush us. We keep kicking that can down the road but the damned can keeps getting bigger. We are in the mother of all unsustainable situations but no one cares as long as the free stuff keeps flowing and the stock market keeps going up. But it will eventually crash. It almost did in 2008 but we were saved by printing cash and handing out trillions but in truth that made it all worse. If there were any justice when it crashes the peasants would round up all the congressmen/women and run them through the guillotine. But having said that it is "our" fault. We elect these big spending big taxing politicians again and again. We will pay the price and most of us will deserve to.
It's remarkable how smoothly a progressive can make the transition between "the tax cut is a sham because my buddies didn't enjoy any cut" and "tax cuts are bad anyway, because we have a deficit." Seems to me the deficit isn't being exacerbated if the cuts are an illusion.
The article was interesting in another way: it tried hard to paint a picture of illusory cuts by obsessing over refunds. That's plain stupid. The question isn't whether people are foolishly overpaying their tax bills throughout the year with greater or lesser intensity lately. The question is whether their tax bill is bigger or smaller. CNN's own charts show that the average tax bill in all 50 states, red and blue, is down by 20-30%. Only refund decreases were negligible on average and less enjoyable in blue states. Government spending problems...just think of all the government mandated and funded jobs in the university, the local and state governments, and the federal government. The administrative state in all these areas gobbles up resources and produces only politically correct regulation that produces nothing but makes the progressive socialists feel good about themselves. SJW's are not affordable and will go when the government has no choice as there is no more money. Not surprisingly, billionaires are at the trough in the service business of dealing with gays, trannys, poverty pimps, global warming, renewables, and other endless sources of "fairness".
cows have been milked by robotics for over ten years now, the only labor being replaced is wetbacks illegal immigrants or whatever you want to call them, used to be Mexicans now a lot of Nicaraguans or in my heyday local teenagers who were willing to work, they are rare now, too many aborted or birth controlled out of existence the rest are spoiled. typically it takes just as much time you just spend it working with the cows rather than doing the actual milking, still takes MANAGEMENT, I know been in the business for 45 years
