Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Life in America: A burger in Hattiesburg


Mrs. BD and her pal took a road trip to Houston this week. It had to do with transporting something that would not fit on a plane. Their route was PA to VA (down Shenandoah Valley when everything in bloom), TN, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas. Seems like they had great fun with a big rented Ford Expedition. And they both like to listen to Rush.


Their second overnite was in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They went looking for a barbecue place but didn't like the look of it, so went to a burger joint, Mug Shots, which they were told had the best burgers in Hattiesburg.


Both of them agreed these were not only the best burgers in Hattiesburg but the best burgers in the USA.

In the South and many Midwest and East coast cities not in the South the best time to go to "those" barbecue places is for lunch or early dinner. I go when I'm there and the barbecue is worth it but never after dark. (or close to dark.)

There’s a Mug Shots in Tuscaloosa also. Went there several times with my son. Good burgers and other things we’re not supposed to eat.

The cheapest burger you can get around here from a non fast food, is $11.00 and at that, it's just a frigging burger.

I have done the drive from Ohio to Houston. Granville Ohio. I think you had a child who went to Kenyon near here? maybe I have the wrong blogger. Overnight-ed near Hope AK. Was glad to get away from there. Have a daughter, son-in-law and new grandchild in Houston. Same, reason. Had to carry some stuff couldn't ship. A fun trip really. Lots of good food in Houston. Get some Ice Cream at Fat Cat. Generally a lurker, but had to comment. Enjoy your blog.
