Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Friday, April 12. 2019The epidemic of Democrat hateLeftists Whipping Themselves Into a Jacobin Frenzy Why the intensity of hate? I often disagree with others politically, but I never hate them. I didn't even hate Obama or Hillary. I sort-of liked Obama, but few of his views. Hillary? Disliked her, but no hate. What's with all the hate?

They can't stand to have any truck with people who don't agree with them. It just makes them so
MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDD! When public displays of animosity, antipathy, and even physical violence and assault are not held in check, then the semi-unhinged who promote them will continue to relish these events, even call them inspired. Why not? As the writer says, they risk nothing.
Not only do they not risk physical rebuke from their victims (which I find amazing), they usually do not risk institutional responses from the police or, as recently seen in Chicago, even from elected State Prosecuting Attorneys. Choosing not to go after prosecutable offenses for arbitrary and prejudicial reasons is a guarantee of worse things to come. It used to be that outrageously aggressive behavior directed toward another would reach some kind of a threshold where response was generally allowed - "Fighting Words". The prospect of this kept people civil nearly all the time. But in this kind of environment, I think the behavior will only stop when some aggressor finally gets the living sh*t beat out of them. I'm starting to think society would be best served were it to be unleashed on one of these hate mobs, with the repercussions being directed back at those who utterly failed to preserve order and encourage civility. David does okay describing the problem but has no solution for it.
In the near term it appears the hate will get worse and even more intense. One hopes the rage will eventually burn itself out. If it doesn't, it is not going to end well for us. Every time I see a car on the road with a "Stop the Hate or Haters, stop Trump" I am amazed at the thick skulled driver that doesn't seem to understand that it is their side that is violent and hateful. Who throws conservatives out of eating establishments, beats up those with MAGA hats on, and keys cars with Trump stickers on them? It isn't the conservatives. They left is violent and deranged in their hate of Trump and his supporters.
It has been this way for decades. The Right tends to be defensive in its violence even when it is dark and threatening: "...in my own house and dare Obama and the ATF to come after me." Even the "cold dead fingers" line describes a defensive act. Leftists go on offense, as far back as Lee Harvey Oswald. We have been fortunate in America that this is usually against objects instead of people: GOP offices, military recruiting stations, ecoterrorism, breaking windows at globalization rallies. Yet increasingly, human targets are allowed - Obama saying to "get in people's faces," or bringing a gun to a knife fight, and leftists following suit with actual violence. We are already at the point where those on the left who used to deplore violence are now taking the "Well, can you blame them?" tack.
The Jews didn't hate the Nazis either. They maybe didn't agree with their views, historically, but at least in the beginning, the majority of Jews didn't hate the Nazis.
They felt it was a passing fad, that cooler heads would prevail, that they could work with them, prove their worth. The Association of German National Jews actually support and voted for Hitler, as do many white Americans support the left. As did the intelligentsia in China, the opposition in Russia, on and on and on. The rabid left of this nation are now equal to the fascist Nazis, from the control of the media to their end goal. The fact that they are so quick to label others Nazis is to deflect that they are in fact the true fascists. Many are openly, without criticism even from their so-called mainstream leadership calling for the elimination of the White man and his culture. Imagine opening calling for the death of a black or hispanic person. If they had their way people would be jailed for any dissent, and, I dare say, eliminated in some cases. Had they control of the military you can bet troops would be in the streets, constitution be damned. Will we wake up and see the new Nazi for what he is before the Jews finally did as they were herded toward the camps? It appears not. Dire statement? Crazy idea? Never happen here? Maybe. Someone in a meeting suggested sending the illegals to sanctuary cities. The idea never got discussed past just bringing it up. The MSM has latched onto this and blames "Trump". Well, of course Trump wasn't at the meeting, didn't hear this idea, but no matter it is a cudgel to beat Trump with. But in true Trump fashion He has responded saying maybe he should do this. My vote is do it. Please do it. The left in these sanctuary cities "love" illegals and consider them to be "gifts of love". Please President Trump, DO IT.
It would be RACIST for them to oppose flooding sanctuary cities with illegals, would it not?
It will be interesting to see the rhetoric they would use to fight such a proposal. I'll wager the charge of "racism" would mysteriously disappear from the debate. Sending them would become racist. Sending illegals to the sanctuary cities that yearn for them would be identical to sending them to concentration camps, because Trump is always saying he wants to establish concentration camps.
Or at least, one journalist lied about something he said, another one misquoted the lie, a third one wildly exaggerated the misquote, a fourth lied about the exaggeration, and so on for three more journalists, and what came out at the end was something that rhymed with “concentration camp”. So it’s basically well known, and need not be sourced. I believe the reason for the hatred and violence is that most of us view those we disagree with as misled, foolish, idealistic, etc. but see them as well meaning - they believe they are doing good. The far left - not classic liberals - view anyone who disagrees with them as evil, with evil motives, and wanting to hurt people.
Michael - definitely the case. And I believe the reason the Left thinks everyone who disagrees with them is evil or stupid is because for most of them, it is a secular religion.
Their politics is their faith, and so for them, as true believers they can justify just about anything in pursuit of the core beliefs of their faith. It explains their relentless fervor, their never giving up, their willingness to believe the worst about others who are, obviously, infidels. Core beliefs: government and public school is the best solution for all problems, religion is filled with hate and has no relevance today anyway, all prior social problems were not solved right and we have to change everything NOW, the family is not the basic building block of society (government is), the environment was perfect at some unspecified point in the past and man does nothing but destroy it, etc. I used to wonder if ankle biters and voyeurs had too much time on their hands and no useful self actualizing occupation. Maybe, others have a pathological hero complex. For many, I think the personality disorder comes first and the object of hate is secondary, or a target of opportunity. In other words, haters gotta hate and if it sn't this, it would be that.
I'm just an ordinary Joe, but I don't encounter this stuff in my everyday life, I only encounter it in the media. I actually find some of the claims oddly passe. Across real middle America, people have been intermarrying, and adopting across ethnic lines for decades. For Pete's sake, what if the person you share a cubicle with is Japanese-American Buddhist, with a gay-in-law and grandchildren adopted from El Salvador. For what it is worth, I think a lot of "hate" is manufactured or exaggerated, and then amplified by the media. We all know about cherry picking news stories, deceptive editing, photoshopping, the presentation of rumors as news, hoaxes, and how public figures are baited, all for a gotcha moment. For me, the issue is why is there a huge audience for this. The media wouldn't be doing this, if there wasn't a significant revenue stream. I agree with you to a certain degree that much of this is driven by both mass and social media but disagree in part. It's out there. I don't know anyone personally on the left who would perform violence but I absolutely know those who would, as AVI put it above, take the "Well, can you blame them?" tack.
Exasperated - your observations and experience match mine.
And your question is a great one - why do so many otherwise normall well-adjusted people believe all the lies and hate spewed by the media? I’ve wondered that myself many times. A lot of factors, no doubt. — Past goodwill earned by the media, the trust built up over decades. — Confirmation bias and congnitive dissonance on the part of the news consumer. — Sheer numbers: almost all news outlets and news coverage slants way left (sometimes in subtle ways) so if you expose yourself to any of it, even casually, you’re getting an IV drip of Leftist news, and many do not even realize it. — Journalism school self-selection and brainwashing such that those graduates unleashed upon the world are toxic SJW fools - but they sure do care a lot about their narratives and they are going to make you care, too. — Etc. There are two opposing forces at work. On one side, you have the military industrial complex, which seeks to hide its true cost. In order to direct attention away from itself, the State tries to find other villains. But there's no getting around the fact that the military, without civilian oversight, has borrowed and spent trillions of dollars that we will never be able to pay back.
On other side are people who do not currently receive government money; but want to. That includes blacks, old people, homosexuals, and a host of others. The sad truth is that the amount of money available for social programs will decrease dramatically because of war spending: Read this: "First of all, since the government has to pay back those from whom we’ve borrowed, huge sums of money will flow out of the United States to foreign investors, diminishing funds necessary for solving problems besetting us such as health care, poverty, homelessness, violence, and infrastructure. Second, the payback also means that vast amounts will flow to already wealthy U.S investors—making the rich richer and the poor poorer. The mounting rise of social and economic inequality, already at a shamefully high level, will be driven unimaginably higher." https://theamericanscholar.org/the-ultimate-cost-of-our-endless-wars/#.XLD16-hKiUm The military will continue to direct attention away from itself, even though it's the main problem that we face. Instead, what you will see are increasingly frustrated citizens, for whom any kind of safety net has been destroyed. By the military. National defense is a constitutional mandate, welfare is not. In fact it is unconstitutional to take the citizens money and give it to others.
"I sort-of liked Obama" I must say, you have poor discriminatory skills.
I think it's projection. Self-hatred projected towards an object. Most people with political hatred really can't explain it if you talk to them.
The term "identity politics" has a secondary and personal meaning to many most Democrats and radicals. Individuals identify themselves by political opinions, hence any opposition to their opinions threaten, and cause an mini-identity crisis; hence "the other" must be always denied and defeated for the"individual" to"survive." Opposite political opinions hence become mini-existential crisis.
The democrat party is composed of all these victim groups and the only way to get them to act in concert is to stoke their hatred. You saw this with presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Romney cheated on his income taxes, he was mean to his dog, he gave women cancer, he closed businesses and laid off people. He was really a hateful person.
"Why" the hate?!? Really???
SIMPLE: loss of power. The Left has been on a roll for decades (noticably since the 1960s...ramping up to that since the Frankfurt School came to America), and has decidedly noticed blowback/resistance over the past years. With the election of Trump, they instinctively "know" (too much in denial to consciously acknowledge in a mentally healthy way...so it goes with their mental illness) their game is OVER. Hence, the only response they know: hate/violence. Like a 2-year-old with a machine gun. |
