Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Ilhan Omar has no qualifications. Her background provides her with no knowledge of Middle Eastern affairs, only a set of prejudices from one of the many sides there. She was elected because of those prejudices. Nothing else. You don't learn about foreign policy in a refugee camp.
Floridia wants to build a $400 million dollar lithium-ion battery. There seems to be no end to the amount of natural resources, and public subsidies being spent on saving us from a nonexistent problem. As anyone of us with cell phones can attest to, these batteries don't last forever. What is the environmental impact of such a large battery at the end of its life?
The battery foolishness is simply to harvest tax credits and tax subsidies at the expense of the tax payer and the energy consumers. Win-win for the hogs at the trough. But the battery could sure make a hell of a fire...down wind?
That ain't the half of it, indy. Waiting in the wings I'd the battery disposal recycling crisis, calling for the requisite battery recycling bureaucracy with its attendant taxes and/or taxes-by-other-names being liberally imposed. Possibly/probably there are other issues ready to be piled on, among them being overseas child labor exploitation in the mines. It's a classic public policy gambit I've seen over and over again in more than twenty years of Federal policy analysis. It would appear that the Trojan horse is by no means an endangered species.
UC and due process...Disqualified from the federal student loan program and federal grants of any kind. Then they must be audited for decades to insure they are complying with the law. Just like the southern states that had to comply with extra special voter laws. You're welcome California.
Boomerang generation...prepare children for the real world instead of hiding reality from them. That requires real parents, real teachers, and real religious upbringing...the welfare state, public school indoctrination, and churchian leadership do not promote reality.
On the good side - the failure of the current parenting models will be noticed by the kids - who will go "Okay, I know what DIDN'T work with me. I'll try something different with my kids."
I’m concerned that the majority of them won’t have the contemplative capacity to even see the problem. I’m concerned that so many of them have been brainwashed into disregarding any information that would come from unapproved sources, that it will take multiple generations before this nightmare is corrected.
History indicates the situation will be resolved by war and invasion by other countries. The large majority of primitive and ancient civilizations understood the dangers of a weak and unprepared populace (think the Spartans for example), but it seems to be beyond the comprehension of modern American society.
That is exactly because things are so good. 90% of lefties would scrap our military and use the money to provide free health care for illegal aliens. The world is at peace except for the occasional battles with muslim extremists in shithole countries. Everyone is well fed, has more free stuff than they can use and there seems no end in sight. It is like the story of the grasshopper and the ant on a national scale. This is really not so different from what happened to Rome.

"I’m concerned that so many of them have been brainwashed into disregarding any information that would come from unapproved sources,"
I'm not sure there's that many who've been brainwashed. Son's in college - says there's some idiots, but the number is actually quite small in his locale. (Wyoming - which may be part of it) And you know that upcoming generations tend to be kinda rebellious, tossing aside their parent's thinking... So it may not be the problem that it COULD be - but I think there will be some issues arising from it, but that'll self-correct in a generation or so. "Berkeley forces parents to sign waiver for Easter egg hunt."
The real problem is parent behavior. My church stopped having its annual public Easter egg hunt several years ago because parents and children started physically fighting over the eggs and there was also a fear that smaller children could get trampled by other children and adults. Another sign of the collapse of American society. -------------------------------------------------------------- "University of California dares courts to make it provide due process to accused students" If the ACLU was a bona fide civil rights organization, it would have filed a class action against UC for its declared intention to continue to violate civil rights. But of course, crickets. -------------------------------------------------------------------- "Why Are 2020 Democrats Embracing Slavery Reparations?" I'm not sure why a single non-black person would now vote for a Democrat. Besides being patently racist, it's also blatantly unconstitutional. (And to those that would bring up the AJA reparations, those payments were made to the actual people who had been harmed by being put in the relocation camps. Totally different from what the Democrats are proposing, which is simply to give money to a privileged race that has been taken from all other races. And to the argument that these people were somehow descended from slaves, the Supreme Court was clear when it said that "ancestry cannot be used as a proxy for race"--Rice v. Cayetano (2000) (unconstitutional to give a race special voting rights because of ancestry). The ACLU was transmorgraphied decades ago into an anti-American organization dedicated to destroying capitalism and conservatism and replacing it with a Marxist socialist model.
Come on! Cut us some slack! It's only been 67 generations since slavery was legal in the US. They need more time and money to get over what their great-great-great-great-great grandparents went through.
